View Full Version : transmission guys.. th400 rebuild

looks like i killed my th400. i lost second gear...


driving around it was feeling slightly slush going into second, the next day driving about 15 minutes down the road i noticed it still was slush and began to smell burned trans fluid and heard a slight whine from the trans. stopped and let it cool down. driving back home it wouldn't go into second gear and felt like it free rev'ed slightly going into third. first and third felt relatively fine..


how much would it cost to have the trans rebuilt? what does it sound like i broke? thanks for any info..

Probably around 600. Id check out bp automotive. They are reliable and reasonably priced.

talk to rob (montec) or gerald (gearmesh) the rest will probably be jokes. both are good. rob has body odor. gerald may kill you. but you will have a bad ass transmission

i was debating on bringing it down that way, i'm all the way up in D.C. though, just wanted to get some info before i do it.

Bring it down, you will not regret it. As I have said in the past, Rob really worked with me on mine. He took the time to go over all the details and even gave me a fair price! That's a lot coming from a jew, lol.

Depends on what you want done and whats already been done. Yours is an FLT, correct?

Has it been machined for torrington bearings?

my th400 is an ATI reverse manual valve body with a trans brake.

When you get the trans. here. Let one of them (Gerald/Rob) fix it. Best money you will spend, it will be right and work right, you will be happy, end of story!!!!!
