i have a 5.3 liter LS motor in my s10 run by a msd 6010 box. has been like this since ive had the 5.3 in the truck. We put a tune in the truck via laptop and set the timing curve etc. truck went 7.91 with 36 degrees max timing in it. 1.70 60 foot. pulled 4 degrees went 7.91 with a 1.70 60 foot with 32 degrees. for a stock motor im not upset with it. well today we went to tinker with the timing a bit and hooked up the laptop and the timing was at 32 degrees across the board. well I can see it realtime with the gauges with the MSD software and i cranked it up for shits n giggles. idling timing was fine. while revving it went to 44 degrees while the timing was supposed to be maxed out at 32 degrees. Upon looking further in the box there is a max timing set in the box and it was set at 44 degrees but i dont see that it should be getting there if i have the timing ramp at 32? The only thing not hooked up is the map sensor and it says not to shit with the graph if you dont have it so i never did. I was told the timing would be like that with no load but how in hell does it know if its loaded or not? the only two sensors it has is the crank and cam sensor. I turned the max timing down and the truck runs like a whole new truck. any ideas as to why its like this?

I didn't know you had no map sensor hooked up. Without it your box has no idea that the truck is under load.

you may have, but I might not have been paying attention, so my bad :hide:

....or Back then I might have thought the box would work strictly off of RPM if it didn't have a map sensor.

How did Kevin have his hooked up?

but it is an option for fuel economy. not a necessity. if its supposed to be turned off within the box im not sure. all i wanna know is how did it stay together on pump gas with 44 degrees of timing?

kevin didnt have a map sensor either

How do the plugs look? I can only guess that it has a shit pile of fuel in it, or it's not really at 44* under WOT and some other table is pulling timing, such as coolent temp intake temp, or what all sensors ya got rock'n with that box.

well just recently we got the carb right and the plugs looked fantastic before now. the ONLY sensors that run off the box are the crank and cam position sensor.

ok. alls i hear is a bunch of wrong.

if you want it run the same timing curve just get one of these.

your going backwards with technology.

There is another switch in the box that is set to 7.90, turn it to 6.90 and you will be set.

if going with a dist is backwards technology, why are the fastest ls cars using them?

i was talking about using the msd with no map sensor. sounds like he want the box to act like a distributor. hence the link.

Just got off the phone with mad tech support. The box has to have the MAP Other wise it defaults yo max timing (which was 44 degrees) it may pick up now with proper timing. Idk how it didn't come apart

^^ Race truck, good gas :):):)

Rota not phased correctly for 44* so it was firing a whole hole (hehe) infront of the fireing order really fireing at the correct time lol
