turbo eclipse help

i have a 97 gst that has been sitting for about 2 yrs at my moms, i brought it home today and tried to get it running changed the oil and new plug wires it fired right up. but for some reason the turbo is leaking water from the front in a stream i think its the tube with the big nut on the front, if anyone that knows these cars can help please text me at 843 460 4931 and i also need a valvecover its cracked on top and leaking oil

Sounds like the coolant hose to the turbo might be bad or split, or the fitting itself might be cracked or something. Just take the hose off and give it a good look, and then do the same with the fitting. Those are cheap and easy to replace.

As for a valve cover, just go to the junk yard and get one, find any turbo or non-turbo 1st generation eclipse, talon, or laser, the valve covers are all the same.

I'm really busy most of the time but I might be able to find some time to stop by this weekend and check it out if you want.

Even a bunch of Hyundai's have valve covers that fit.

thanks i would really appreciate that is there anyway to plug off the water to it or does it need it. im just trying to get it fixed and trade it for a little truck. its a 97 with 107 on the dash it has a non turbo block that was put in at 97k but its all stock other than that i dont know about these cars that much just rather trade it off for a small truck :bigthumb:

The turbo was designed to be water cooled but I have known guys that have run them without coolant at stock boost levels without any problems.

I would try to repair the line if possible but if the car is allowed to idle for a bit after running to avoid oil coking it would be alright.

found were its leaking on the front of the turbo there is a big nut and a line well right under it is a hole too is it supposed to be plugged because if it is the plug must have fell out. but its just pouring out of that hole..

I haven't seen a stock turbo in a long time but I would guess that if that hole is threaded it should be plugged. Oil goes in on the top and out on the bottom and water goes in on either the front or the back and out on the opposite side. If it is on the same side as one of the lines then it should be plugged.

ok now i have figured it out the car has a evo3 16g turbo and it seems to have a freeze plug type deal under the water return hole,well the plug is missing any ideas on how to fix it thanks

So I'm guessing it looks something like the one in this picture and that appears to be a freeze plug. I guess measure the hole and try to find a plug to fit.

Do you have any idea if the turbo is a genuine Mitsubishi unit or an e-bay knock-off?

Damn 800 is a chunk of change for a 16g... Are you sure that's what it is? Brand new those are under 500.

Well at that price I hope it is a genuine Mitsubishi one and if that is the case you might be able to contact http://www.forcedperformance.com and order a freeze plug from them.
