Not sure how it happened, but someone cloned my smart phone down in Miami and made a ton of calls to Cuba. The bill is 2k+ and sprint dint have the brains to alert me. I finally figured it out when my phone would not make/receive calls yesterday.

I am not responsible for the charges, but it could take up to 2 billing cycles for them to clear. They are also looking into finding the suspect and prosecuting him. They think it's one guy who is responsible for a bunch of issues over the last few weeks. My passwords and security answers were changed to answers commonly used by this person.

I am totally baffled as to how it was done.

Its really easy actually. Your cell number is associated to the ESN (electronic serial number) of the phone. Both are transmitted over the air. Capture the ESN, go to one of these places around town who unlock phones, and insert the captured ESN into that phone. That works most of the time. The only time this is bad is when both phone are in the same area at the sametime, that will cause the carrier to shut down both..:bigthumb:

How do I capture a ESN? Just for my knowledge of course.

Usually captured ESN's are inside jobs by ex carrier employees, but there is equipment that the carrier field guy use that can list them, and of course the government way..:bigthumb:
