So after being an loyal comcast customer for 5+ years and paying 150 bones a month, i am going to try knology for a year for only 93 total a month
digital cable service
HD DVR
25 MBps internet
VOIp phone (who cares) lol
I even gave a curtousy call to comcast to see if they can even get close. there offer was the 99 before taxes, and i would lose my dvr and lower my internet speed. :bs:
wouldn't even give me promo pricing on internet.
oh well, anyone here have their service? how do you like it? how is the internet speed?
either way, saving 600 for a year spells free trips to the drags strip!

The only difference is the channel line up. I called Comcast and had the same argument as you, and they price matched though.

Does knology have a service map? Ive got time warner out here in the boondocks.
Ive got digital cable (hd), hd dvr, internet (dont know the speed), no phone. Its like 120-130.

Sigh, no the diffrence is not just channel line up.
Its bandwidth, its stability.......it's a lot more than just that.
Carl, you don't have issues with Comcast right? Or just tired of the high bill?
If you have issues PM and I will fix them (unless it is the price lol)
I have knology where I am, its decent.....its ok. Price is cheap because their bandwidth could not touch what Comcast has.
afaik, also, Knology does not have Docsis 3.0 anywhere yet....due to limitations in their system.
Comcast offers the best all around......its just in some areas its pure shit due to them not replacing/ripping up old outdated cable.
Back in bushy park.....that new neighborhood? Unsure of the name, they are a prime example of this.....it used to be USA Cable, or something, Comcast bought it, never changed the old cable and its "vaulted" so when it rains pretty much everyone there has issues.
Where about's do you live? I can ask my buddy who works for Knology if that area is tight.
One other thing to keep in mind, if you have no issues with Comcast but the price, keep in mind, switching to Knology might be cheaper but you're unsure how it will look.....that means more money being spent on install/uninstall ect....
Another thing people dont ever ever take into consideration.....that 28mbps is from your modem to Knology's servers......you will have to rely on the site you're on and how much they are willing to feed to each IP addy to what speeds you get.
downloading from microsoft.com can yeild 58mbps, while downloading from cnet.com will yield 5mbps......just examples.
So don't bother with the internet speed, unless you game and you know the servers you will be on are hosted by the game maker, not a player.
I stick with 6meg from Comcast, and its perfect, I have 11meg with Knology and its fine for me.
I hope this may make sense.

Theres a wee patch of knology out there......But I think TW has a contract with the land out there....
Main reason more TW than Comcast in Summerville.....TW was first to land cable iirc so they still have whatever kinda lien on it.

I had Comcast for almost 7 years and thought their customer service was lacking so I left. I have been with Knology for almost 3 years and love them so far. The only thing I personally think they lack is in the VOD section.

thanks, the service here has been pretty good, once in a while on high watched HD shows, like LOST i would get lots of pixels, but the main reason i left is 150 was just too much to pay for what i was getting...

You can call Comcast, I can PM you the backdoor number to customer service, and just ask them, you think you're paying too much and want to see if they can put you back on a promotional pricing if you sign another 2 year contract.
They should not have an issue with this, at all. If so, ask to speak to Cher, and don't allow them to put you on a call back.
That is, if you want to. Just an option.

We had comcast since they first came into the neighborhood. We were paying like $160 for everything. No HD box or any special channels. We did have the best internet service the provided and basic phone.
Here at the new place we have Time warner and its $109/month with more channles, HD service and faster internet. Can't beat it.

my last house had TW and it was the same way, cheaper, better, faster. i shouldn't have sold it.

A lot of people look at the price. But don't realize what goes into it. Comcast has a lot more true HD channels than anyone else.....and soon to have more. Most of Knology's is unconverted.
Once they go all digital that will free up so much bandwidth that internet will be much faster than the 55meg they are capable of. Along with that better hd, and more hd, and vod options.
If you put Knology or TW hd vs Comcast, its a noticeable difference.....and yes I have for all 3. And dish/direct is just a joke, locked in for a contract, at&t internet.....ugh, and unconverted HD channels.....yick......
Also, when you say better. Better can mean so much.....you could have old wires, busted splitters, a cut in the cable itself......or in Randy's case, a tap that looks like it has been run over by many of cars lol.....causing you various interment issues.
I am not saying one is better than the other, because when you think "internet is internet" and "hd is hd" and "its a tons more channels for 10 dollars less" You're not really worried about the quality and backbone of the cable system itself.

fuck..someone pm me a number..i fucking hate comcast. service is sub par at best and the prices are just rediculous. I cancelled my hd dvr, hbo and phone and still pay over a 110 a month. I was paying closer to 160. Thats just to much money for "HD and Internet" I still have hd basic which is fine but i'm seriously thinking about cancelling it all and just rocking my netflix that i get off my ps3.

Comcast is great when it works properly. When they came out with their new operating system (don't know the correct terminology) for the cable boxes, it was like stepping back 10 or 15 years in technology. I absolutely hate it. Their customer service is horrendous, and they only give out old boxes now. My HD box was having problems all the time, so I took it back to Comcast, they gave me another one which sucked just as bad. I took that one back, and they gave me an older model that sucked even worse. Traded that one out and had the same problems. If I set a program to record on an HD channel, it would somehow switch to the regular channel (non-hd) and record that.
About a year ago at my old apartment I signed up for Comcast, but I fought tooth and nail to get the best deal possible. Took me about 3 days of bitching with various customer service reps, but I ended up getting the 30mbs internet (which is awesome by the way), and cable for $35 a month. Damn steal in my mind.
When I moved to my new place off of Rivers, Comcast didn't have service there, so we had to go with Knology. We get cable and 6mbs internet for I believe $93. It's ok, I haven't had any issues yet, I just think they are overpriced.

Its just a guide upgrade, and vod upgrade. Its what all the other Comcast areas use......the Charleston area was last to get it (we are first to test, and last to get).
ALL cable service providers hand out refurbs......no one will hand you a brand new in box cable box. Modems are not an issue, because they spit out 4 frequencies, boxes have everyone under the sun so they have to be bench tested before handed out, so the modems are handed out brand new in box.
30 meg service is normally around 75/mth so you got a dam good deal.
Their customer service sucks because overflow gets routed to Agusta and Jacksonville Fla.......they are a whole different ball game. So they will tell you what they know, which may not be true for the Charleston system.
The local customer service isn't so bad.....even more so when you let them know what you're talking about.

Fair enough, but you could tell just by looking at the box that it was an older version of the one we were originally given. It performed WAY worse than the original box. They simply said they were out of stock of the newer ones, and had been for months.
The upgrade is terrible. It looks worse, performs worse, and functions worse. Just my 2 cents but I know I'm not alone. My parents hated it so much they dumped their cable service and got a Roku box.
As for the customer service, 9 times out of 10 it is terrible. I would call one person who said the service I wanted was unavailable, no matter how much I bitched, and then I would call another person who said it was, just on and on. The lack of inter-company communication is terrible at best. Comcast has gotten too big for it's own good, and the customers have suffered because of it.

What you can do is call up, and ask to be put on a promotion pricing if you agree to another 2 years (its not a locked 2 years).

haha I felt bad when I would give a customer an Explorer 2000 box.....those are omfgwtfbbq ancient.
I would try to grab RNG 100's out of my locker and leave the rest as returns (RNG 100's are the tiny piano finish black digital boxes).
I have had weeks with all my locker items were bad, modems would not link up, boxes wouldn't pick up half the channels.....bad equipment happens to everyone really.
But its worse now because they had the bad equipment outsourced to Atlanta to a 3rd party, now to "cut costs, so our customers save more" they try to fix what they can at the local office in North Charleston.
The reason the new guide sucks balls, is because everyone but us is on the motorola platform.....we are still on the SA platform, with a motorola guide.....
Which makes no sense to me.

The new guide is horrible, I hate the way it hits the ads on the bottom when you are scrolling through it. Also, when you are watching a live show and rewind or pause it and the show ends, if you didnt record it, the box will cut the show off after a certain point. There are some other minor operational issues with the new os, but those 2 are the most irritating.
BTW, I havent talked to anyone that likes the new os.
I understand why they have changed their whole system, but why wouldnt they make the new os BETTER than the old one?
Doesnt really matter anyway, because in a few days I will have Time Warner.

lol Yeah, it does suck. Sucked for us when they rolled out with it, NO boxes were coming back up. So I would leave the office with about 15 trouble calls about the boxes not coming up.
It will suck until they roll out with motorola platform....then it will get better.....its like running an apple OS on a windows based machine, it will work but you will run into issues soon....
When will get these boxes with comcast ?

Quad tuners? bwahahahahahah that makes me laf!
It would be nice......record 3 shows at one time and watch whatever you want....
Vs watch anything you want and record 1, or watch nothing and record 2.
We won't see those for another year or 3....
If you want to cheat the Comcast (unsure about other cable co's)
Buy a few x-box 360's for each tv in the house (4 total)
Buy a pci slotted tv tuner card off the net, has a quad tuner load it in your computer, network the computer and the x-boxes.
Get maxed out channels from comcast, and get 1 cable card.
So youll have max channels on all 4 x box's......I say x-boxes because they have windows media center built into them.....
So you're still paying a lot, but you get all the channels on 3 sets for free, which would normally run you 300-400$'s plus

i have comcast and its horrible... it never stays connected... i can be in the middle of netflix and it will disconnect 3 times.... every time i get online i have to re log in to my profile because it disconnects.. ive called and no luck... ive talked to a few comcast guys on the road in the area and they have nothing to say just laugh.
i have debated going with knology when i get out of this apartment next month or next cant remember.
i will admit tho when it does stay connected if its avaliable in hd stream its on point... till it disconnects. for what its worth in near rivers/dorchester/meeting area.
anyone have any ideas.. i know the installer had to change some fittings to newer ones but id really like to hook up my wireless setup but unfortunatly something is wrong with comcast and it wont conect and wants me to resetup every time so i just wire it in.
