What's up guys, I have a 1997 SC300 that I am currently swapping in a 2jzgte with tranny. I am 3 days in and currently documenting my build on supraforums.com. I am in Park Circle, North charleston SC and I work downtown at MUSC. Somebody from supraforums recommended I document the build on here too. I didn't know we had a local forum for sc. Anyway I will start a new thread will all the info on it in the next couple of days. If you wanna check out the build now it is under builds/projects section of supraforums.com. You have to be a member to view it, the title is 1997 sc300 2jzgte swap.

Whats up! Glad to see you over here. Show everyone the pics. I like how you documented how the new engine came. I saw another lexus person on the supra forums just put a TT head gasket and some studs and made some good power.

Welcome! A 2JZGTE SC300 is very high on the list of cars I want next. There was one listed here in Charleston recently that looked really clean.

I am in Charleston, SC and doing the Aristo 2jzgte Auto tranny swap into my 97 SC300 Auto. The car is black with 2008 gs wheels powdercoated black. Lowered with tanabe springs and front badge shaved, black rear emblems, and front bumper resprayed. I have a 6500 dollar budget and will update and list every part that has been purchased and where I got it. I am using my buddies car so I have a deadline of a month before he gets off his ship(merchant marine) and then I will not have a car. So it has to be finished by sep 16 no matter what. Here is the parts list to start with which will most likely increase. I am pulling the stock motor out tom night, or starting it once I get off work. My plan is to run on the twins and have around 400-450 wheel while keeping daily driver status. I will upgrade turbos, fuel system, etc. down the road. I am just looking to keep it reliable as possible.
Parts to order

1. Supra water pump-ordered
2. Supra thermostat
3. Supra power steering resevoir
4. Supra p/s hoses
5. Supra throttle cable-ordered
6. Supra front mount with stock twins specific piping-ordered
7. Downpipe for jdm twins...Not sure which fit the jdm twins. Suggestions?
8. Supra oem radiator hoses-ordered
9. Aftermarket radiator(koyo or mizu)
10. Tranny cooler
11. Twin electric fans with shroud or supra fan with stock sc300 shroud, not sure yet
12. I live about 18 miles from Dr. tweak so I will be purchasing a new custom wiring harness(plug and play) for Aristo into an SC300) $1400 for new harness so hopefully sell Aristo and SC harness for some money.
13. I have to contact Dr. tweak to find out if new harness will support A/C, fuel pump, and tach. if not I will tackle them seperately.
14. Supra denso fuel pump- ordered
15. New Vacuum hoses
16. Supra oem heater hoses
17. I am using my SC oil pan (rear sump). Should I get a new oil pump while I'm there?
18. SC400 driveshaft.... I read on another build that this is a direct fit for Aristo. Suggestions?
19. Oil drain kit for jdm twins if needed
20. Coolant overflow kit from suprastore-ordered

If I'm leaving something out let me know

Parts ordered

1. JDM Aristo 2JZGTE non-vvti W/ Auto tranny, all accessories, wiring harness, ecu. Price $2307 shipped to SC. Purchased with www.jdmenginedepot.com
2. Supra front mount intercooler kit with radiator overflow kit from suprastore.com $480 shipped
3. Supra water pump full housing suprastore.com $130 shipped
4. Supra radiator hose kit suprastore.com black $75 shipped
5. New plug and play wire harness for 2jzgte into sc300 from tweakedperformance.com (dr. tweak) $1700, now I really need to sell the stock harnesses to make some money back. Will take 400 for both of them, includes full aristo harness and full SC300 harness with ecu.
6. Supra tt denso fuel pump $245 shipped suprastore.com
7. Supra tt oem throttle cable $75 horsepowerfreaks.com

It arrived and after a quick lookover it definately got some road rash on the way to SC. Not sure if it looked like this leaving jdmenginedepot or if got bumped around on the 18 wheeler. Either way I will be sending these pics over to them. First picture is the igniter which took a pretty nasty hit.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzchippedigniter.jpg

This second picture is the chipped crank pulley

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzchippedcrankpulley.jpg

This sensor on the turbo inlet was also damaged

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzchippedsensor.jpg

Another broken connector/sensor coming from valve cover

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzbrokenconnectorfromvalvecover.jpg

This fitting for 2 vacuum hoses coming off power steering was snapped off, the plastic piece remains in the vacuu hose.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzbrokenvacuumfittingcomingoffpowersteering.jpg

This is a bracket broken off on tranny

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzbrokenbracketonpasssideoftranny.jpg

Yesterday I ripped out the pass seat, rear seat, pass door trim, trunk coverings, spare tire, jack, tire changing tools, old school 12 disc cd changer which went straight to trash, and hood.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/schoodremoved.jpg

Today was a productive day. Started off with removing valve cover & upper timing belt cover

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzwaterpump-2.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzwaterpump.jpg

Then came the awesome task of taking off the crank pulley bolt, pulley, and balancer. I sourced a couple of different ways to do this and the first didn't work out. Trying to thread bolts into the crank pulley ended up snapping grade 8 bolts, one inside the crank pulley. 1 point 2jz, 0 me. So I called supra store and asked if they had any good info. I tried putting an extension through the window in the tranny to hold flexplate still. This just wedged the extension in between the two with the amount of torque when turned over. I just needed something that wouldn't shift but still fit behind flexplate. I had a double sided ratchet with 3/8 on one side and 1/4 on the other. The 1/4 side was just enough to sit behind flexplate

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-2.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-3.jpg

Now all you need is a friend that weighs over 200 to hold the motor down, 8 miller lights, a 6 foot extended breaker bar, and some anti-bitch elbow grease.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-4.jpg

And success!

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-9.jpg

Now to set timing, so I used one of the non broken grade 8 bolts m8-1.25 40mm threaded into crank pulley and used a wrench as leverage and easily turned crank over to set the timing.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-7.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-8.jpg

I then removed the A/C pump and P/S pump with brackets

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-10.jpg

With a quick trip to Park's auto parts open till midnight, grabbed a 8" pulley puller and removed the harmonic balancer and crank pulley.

With those out of the way I was finally able to get to last two lower timing belt cover bolts, timing belt tensioner bolts, and water pump outer housing.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-11.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/2jzcrankpulley-12.jpg

and calling it a night.

So yesterday I removed the fenderwell plastic, undercarriage, front bumper, intake and maf plumbing, throttle control, and coil. I also drained engine oil and coolant.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scbumperremoval.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scenginebay.jpg

I had to work till 10:30pm tonight so I got a late start. I needed to tackle the fuel pump because I have a Supra tt denso pump coming. I am including the step by step process of removing the stock sc300 fuel pump which is easy but with pictures and directions even easier. so here

Unclip these two wires
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump.jpg

the fuel pump access panel is behind the rear seat, remove it with a scraper comes right off . Then take the bolts off, these are 10mm.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump-2.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump-3.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump-4.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump-5.jpg

Once you get that undone there should be three nuts you have to take off

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump-6.jpg

Undo those and fuel pump and plumbing should come right out after disconnecting rubber lines.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump-7.jpg

The last thing to do is remove filter bag on bottom of filter, there was a circular clip on the bottom which was not fun to take off and it definately shot off into the garage somewhere so It looks like i'll be having to buy a new one. This is the bottom of the fuel pump after everything is taken off.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scfuelpump-8.jpg

I contacted the carrier who delivered the motor, and filed a claim about the damaged items in shipping. They are supposed to let me know tomorrow if they are going to replace the broken parts, pay me what I paid for the engine, or I'm shit out of luck. Lets hope for one of the first two.

Clean looking ride man. Good luck with that time hack ya have. Had a similar issue with time when I was doing my 5.0 last month. Keeps you from taking your lolly-gaggin thats for sure!
Sucks that you had some parts get messed up during shipping. Hopefully they dont do the whole "well you should have said something before taking the package into custody" crap. keep us posted!

Well with the damaged parts problem, the engine came wrapped in black plastic so there was no way to see the damage until you cut the metal straps and removed the wrap. So even though I signed for it they might replace it, they called it (hidden damage). They said my case was being reviewed today and to call tom. Got my fingers crossed!! If they do send me a check, a single turbo will def be on the order list.

I am off of lancaster. If you turn at cvs towards football field, monitor dead ends into lancaster. You may have heard me and my buddy take the 250's out. One is a Honda CR250R two stroke and the other is a Kaw 250f. The two stroke is nowhere near quiet.

All these nickel and dime items couldn't be accounted for in the beginning, they add up quick. That vsv on turbo inlet is def trashed, hopefully I will be picking up one from tweaked in the next week.

Last night after getting off late, I was able to get the sc300 stock exhaust off , I had to be back at 8am so I felt that was good enough for the night.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scexhaustremoval.jpg

Today I first removed fan, fan clutch, fanshroud, battery, battery tray, throttle cable

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scengineharness-3.jpg

I tackled the sc300 engine wire harness removal, really not that bad. The ecu and body plugs are under the kick panel on passenger side floor, if you didn't know that already. It is easier to unplug from ecu and run through firewall and lift motor out with harness connected to motor.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scengineharness.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scengineharness-2.jpg

Pull the harness through firewall
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scengineharness-4.jpg

I disconnected the tranny cooler lines
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scengineharness-6.jpg

I was removing the heater hoses and when I went to disconnect heater hose from heater valve it broke the tip off of heater valve. Does anyone know if the heater valve is necessary, if so how much does one of those run? I might hit up LKQ (junkyard off of rivers ave in charleston sc) and see if they have a wrecked SC300 or 400.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scengineharness-5.jpg

The intercooler piping came in along with radiator overflow tank (bought from suprastore.com and it is slimmer but it had a freakin honda name on it. Not too happy with that, shoulda gone with custom metal tank. Whatever

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scintercoolerpiping.jpg

Also ordered HKS SSQV4 from titan motorsports with aluminum flange and intercooler piping showed up with steel, so had to order a steel flange too.

Ok so the shipping company contacted me and said they were only going to give me $70 for all the damages. Thats really lame but what can you do?

I had to do something to make me feel better so I ordered a Turbonetics T-66 ball bearing turbo with F1 turbine wheel, T4 manifold, and a single turbo oil supply and drain kit. Now I dont have to bother with the vsv's (supra sensors for twins) that are broken.

This is the after pic of twins removal

That "skinny dog" eats two bowls of organic food a day and sleeps in a bed at night. Not to mention is in the house most of the day which is at 72 degrees. If anybody needs to eat more its me! Here is an accurate picture of what they do most of the day

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/Lazydogs.jpg

Don't feel so bad now huh?

Lets get back on track....Today I ordered a blitz 3" midpipe, 3" downpipe, 4" intake piping, and turbosmart 38mm wastegate from driftmotion.com

Tonight I removed the oil pan from the SC300 and am including step by step process. I will try and get it tapped for oil return sometime soon also but here is the oil pan removal.

I flipped the sc300 engine upside down so I could take pictures of the removal which will make it easier on me and whoever uses this build as a guide. The oil pan has two parts, lower and upper. The black lower section is the first thing you have to take off, you cannot remove the larger upper oil pan until this is first removed.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan.jpg

Once the 10mm nuts and bolts are removed, use a small flathead and lightly tap between the two pans it will slowly inch itself apart. This next pic is after lower pan is removed
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-2.jpg

Remove the pickup which should have 3 bolts holding it on

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-4.jpg

With that removed you should see a tray which you will also need to remove

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-5.jpg

Now with that gone you can see your rotating assembly.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-6.jpg

Now you need to start removing the upper pan bolts, dont forget these near bellhousing

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-3.jpg

Now remove the bolts inside the pan marked in the photos

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-7.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-8.jpg

I used the back of a hammer which fit perfectly into the little slots between the pan and block, lightly lift up and start to seperate, do the same on other side.

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-9.jpg
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-10.jpg

Once you see it is moving go ahead and start to seperate the pan near back of motor. Put an extension in slot and hit with hammer just hard enough to move it. Do the same on other side

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-12.jpg

After that it should come right off and look like this

http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-13.jpg

Your engine should now look like this, you can really see all of the rotating assembly now.
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scoilpan-14.jpg

Last thing to do is prepare the SC300 oil pan for an oil return line in the obvious spot.

Man. I haven't been on here in so long and I just ran across this build. That's to bad because I have a TON of 2jzgte stuff. A few of which you just listed. You may have seen my ad on supraforums under our local. And to ForceFed4g63, I have a clean 96 sc300 with TT brakes, TT hks coilovers, and TT wheels I will sell along with a 95tt supra roller. it has fresh paint and just need the motor/trans put back in and a hug parts list. I also have a 99 frc 6speed vette for sale. I'm sell every bit of my car stuff. Don't have time anymore. Looks like you have a good start on your build. Hope everything goes smooth. I would be carful with suprastore.com.

My custom brand new single turbo engine harness from tweakedperformance was ready and to prepare for that I went ahead and removed the aristo harness and the harness from the SC.

Cam from tweaked dropped off the new harness. This harness looks awesome! Everything is brand new on it, including connectors. Def recommend these guys for anyone doing the swap and looking for a clean engine bay. They deleted the vsv's and other things that weren't going to be used to reduce wiring under the hood. Here is a couple of pics of the new harness. Cam went over all the connectors with me and I went ahead and marked them to ease install. Great customer service and product from tweaked.

The oil pan was next on the agenda so I started on that. I wanted the studs to be the same as the Aristo so I needed an 8mmx1.25 tap kit. Lowes, parks auto parts, home depot, and northern tool were out or didn't have it in stock. Sears of all places had it for $8 and I got the last one. I was also pretty impressed with the girl working in the parts department, not bad at all. No I didn't get a pic of her but I should have.

I cleaned up the drain hole a little bit with my dremel that I hate with a passion. I will probably hit it one more time to make sure it is perfect
http://i1217.photobucket.com/albums/dd387/sc3gte/scpan-12.jpg

The engine mounts from the sc300 need to be used so I went ahead and switched those out.

Where were you 2 months ago??? jk. I will def hit you up, looks like you prob have some things there that I need/want. All my funds are tied up in already purchased parts but I will be recovering here soon and will be buying more stuff. Shoot me your phone number and I will save it in my phone. As for suprastore.com all I can say is f$%k them!! They are straight dicks. Anytime I called they would huff and puff like I was bothering them, even after spending about 2300 with them. The shipping was slow, they made mistakes with my orders, and customer service was horrible. I do not recommend them. I do recommend titanmotorsports, tweakedperformance, and driftmotion.com. They have all been helpful and pretty reasonable on price. Thanks for the heads up

The oil pan has been drilled tapped and reinstalled on the engine. I also removed the oil return studs out of the aristo and am installing them into the 2j.

The second pic of the underside of the water pump. Does anyone know where this leads to or if I need to block it off???

I bolted the turbo on to clock the compressor housing and oil suppl/drain.

The cast manifold did not bolt right on, took three times to the dremel just to slide it over the studs. Glad to have that out the way.

I have been driving to work for the past 3 weeks just takin it easy on her. I am trying to build my bank account back up so I can go get her tuned soon. I have basically stayed out of boost, maybe 1-2 psi because I couldn't stand to not hear the bov. She drives awesome, no leaks, no hiccups. Power steering, AC, and all accessories work fine. Tranny shifts smooth at least now before I can throw some power at her. I cant wait to get her tuned and on the dyno and look at the numbers.

Haha, I hear ya. Everything has a price tag but it might be pretty high right now. I am just glad all the hard stuff is over with. I am enjoying driving her to work every day and hearing that turbo spool.
