I found a car that I want that's much cheaper than anywhere else, but it has a rebuilt salvage title. The car is in NC and I'd be registering it in SC. Does it have to be inspected in SC or is the NC rebuilt salvage title sufficient?

Id only buy a salvaged car if I was gonna turn it into a race car.

sometimes a state to state transfer will clear the title, sc doesnt have inspections so you shouldnt have a problem getting it titled

The wife wants me to sell my truck and get an suv. I said if I get a suv it's going to be a TBSS. Then I found that one. If I can sell my truck for what I have in it, I'd only be out a few thousand.
looking at the limited damage that was done to it to begin with and the after pics, i'd say it's worth a road trip to go check it out and if you like it, buy it...

The only concern would be frame damage. In all honesty, I could give a shit. The bad thing would be if I got it, going to sell it down the road.

from personal experience run don't walk away..
and i agree only way id buy salvage again is to turn to a dedicated track car.

There's a black TBSS in cottageville with similar mileage for an awesome price. For sale on here too.
Think about it like this: if it was bad enough for insurance company to total it, giving someone option to buy it an fix, how bad was it really?
I say no........

The carfax looks like shit on it. I'll e-mail it to you. Looks like it's been in 2 or 3 accidents, and the the salvage title was issued in Maryland, BUT did not transfer to NC. It also failed NC emissions on 08-05-11. I foresee nothing but a hassle.

15,500 with 94k. It's got 20k more miles on it, bumper needs to be replaced, and needs new tires. I'd rather take my chances on the rebuilt title

I'd rather own a theft/recovery for the same price.

I don't know how to go about the title with that either. The report just says Theft. So it hasn't been registered since.
call or stop by your local DMV... they can and will tell you anything and everything you need to know

there is a "rare" 2007 awd black with black leather interior one for sale at southern truck company in bonneau. They have it listed for 19.9 on the website, but if you call they will tell you they lowered the price to 18.5. So I am sure there is some room to wiggle. Has 74k on it
The black one I'd be wary of...if it was totaled there is a good reason why. Looks like the worst of the hit was lower left rocker. Replacing two doors is easy... MY bet is that the floor and inner rocker underneath the plastic outer is FUBAR-d. They might have pulled it so everything cosmetic looks good and lines up but who knows about stuctural....

I called and talked to him and he said it's a rebuilt title. Are rebuilt and salvage titles in the same category, just salvage?
csikx
10-01-2011, 11:45 AM
Basically means, the vehicle has been considered a total loss (salvage), but someone chose to put it back together (rebuild). I'd assume an insurance buy back most of the time. I believe to get a rebuilt title it needs to pass inspections, which should give you some sense of security.
