I have an older dell inspiron 8200 laptop that i want to wipe out the hard drive on. Id like to just have the O/S which i think is windows 2000 and tuning software for my car.

Whats the easiest way to do this?

Thanks

^^ That's my first question, do you have any disks for it? If you have the recovery disks just put them in and run through a reinstall. If not, you'll first need to find an operating system disk. With that you can format (erase) the hard drive at the beginning of the install.

Zero fill the drive and delete all the partitions to clean out any bad sectors and get it running the best you can. Install a base of the O/S you want without all the bundled fluf that recovery disks come with, I think I have a windows 2k base disk over here you can have if you want it.

+1 That's what I always do with any computer I didn't put together myself.

Dells don't usually come with all that extra crap that others due so you would probably be alright. Especially an older one like that. It is a good idea to leave off everything you don't need though. It will run much better.
