New guy w/ a 2004 Mach1 [Archive]

Just found this forum a couple days ago. I am in the Air Force and have been in CHS sine 2004, currently reside in Summerville. Picked up the Mach1 in December of 2008 with 12K miles on it. It is Competition Orange, now has 32K on the odometer. Looking forward to getting out to the track next year and picking up some pointers on 1/8th mile racing. The car was stock except for a set of black w/ chrome lip bullitts that were on from the previous owner.

Current mods - JLT RAI, MGW short throw, Borla cat-back, N/X wet 100 shot w/ autometer cobalt series Electric Nitrous bottle pressure, Fuel pressure gauges, and a 10Lb bottle w/ warmer and blow down tube. Fuel pressure safety switch and window switch currently set for 3-6K RPM's, I plan on adjusting this by next year, and a cup holder control panel w/ switches to control everything. I think that is it for the N/X kit. Also have a 1/2" Intake spacer from PHP.

I am having the rear-end built when I get home and have all the parts waiting on me. Moser 31 spline axle's w/ studs, Motive 4.30's, Ford Racing Diff cover, Detroit True Trac Diff, install/bearing kit. I also picked up a SCT SF3/X3 Handheld tuner w/ the Bama tunes, so we will see how the e-mail tune works out.

I still have to pick up some tr6 plugs and diff fluid. Everything will be done at HHP racing for the install, they did my nitrous kit and everything has been flawless so far, never had a chance to put a bottle through her so it will be interesting to see what she lays down.

Well, I think thats it for now. I am laying everything out there because I do not plan on racing for money and hustling, and I do not care if everyone knows what is done. Thanks for reading.

Also, it is a Ford Mustang if anyone was wondering. I know not everyone has heard of a Mach1 and I get asked if it's a GT half the time, and then I get the " Ford hasn't made a Mach1 since 1978" blah blah blah.....

Did you make it down to CHS now? I remember talking to you last year about it, I am going to give Chief Hamilton a call when I get back and he might bring the Shelby over to HHP when I throw mine on the dyno, you are more than welcome to come.

CHS as in Charleston? Yeah..I left Cali about 6 months ago and made my way to this side of the country. Jeff and I set the dyno day up if that's what you were inviting me too...:cheers

Yes sir, Charleston. I won't make it down there that day, after I get back and get everything installed I will set up an appointment for the Mach to get on the dyno and Chief might go up there that day with his Shelby, this won't be till the mid-end November.

Welcome, oh BTW the MACH1 is a GT. Only thing that makes it a MACH1 is the "R" Code in the VIN. If you take it to the stealership for service you will notice the paperwork stating Mustang GT. No where does it state MACH1. I know because I owned one at one time or another.

I like the list of mods. There are a few more that can be added that will go undetected. Have you had it to the track yet?

I dont care what Ford says...it's a 4v with better gears and about 50 other things that make it another animal...it's a MACH1:cheers

I've never had a problem sleeping even when I owned my 70 and 04 mach they are just cars.

You know the truth about what? that it has a 305 hp 4v and 355 gears? They dyno a/t 250 RWHP and the manual 273RWHP
The 05 3v's ran the same times as the Mach. The new 5.0 would embarrass the mach. so no need for chest thumping even with a 100 shot.

Now did I say anything about racing? :) No, because I just have a slow S10 grocery getter soccer mom SUV. I do understand the heritage of the mustang though. I also owned an 02 GT before I bought the 04 Mach1. I had a lot of fun with all the mustangs I owned. Unfortunately I had to get rid of the Mach to get a pickup that was needed more than the Mustang.

I don't remember racing anyone. What is the family car? I know the last time I went to Dorchester I spun all night and I couldn't leave the hole to save my life. My best that night was a 2.2 60'. My personal best when the NT-O5's were fresh was a 1.95 60', at around 18lbs for the tires.

Darryl Buckner's driving school is based in Goose Creek. You dont even have to attend class. Just show up at the track, hand over keys, and watch magic. lol

Not nice..lol. Recall putting 4.10 gears in my 02 auto GT with a 2800 stall and could spin alot more than I previously did. The supercharger then helped more, even though the car bested at 7.5....it was a turtle.

At Dorchester I would spin all the way thru second if I wasn't gentle enough. The track never seemed to be prepped very well.

Mine was an automatic Mach 1 with 16" ET streets on Cobra rims, and with 4.10 gears, 125hp gas, and predator tuner to help the shifts it would run consistant 7.0's. I don't recommend 150hp gas or higher though, unless you like really low compression pistons..:bigthumb:

When I get around to doing a custom tune I might get the jets to bump it up a little bit, but till then I am gonna keep it kinda mild.

The highest I would go on the stock rods is a 125 shot, You had a built motor in you Auto?

Mine was completely box stock, paper filter, 4 cats and all, except for the listed mods. Of course they say a 5 speed car has a steel crank and an auto car has a cast crank, but I didn't ever have crank issues..lol:bigthumb:
