Comcast is starting to get a little pricey for what they offer. Knology and AT&T U-Verse aren't available in my hood yet, so I am looking in to DIRECTV.
People that have it, what are your opinions about it? How often do you lose reception. Would rain like today knock it out?
I also see they offer internet... Do you use their internet?
If you had it and no longer do why did you get rid of it? Better deal elsewhere, shitty customer service or poor reception?
Thanks.

Its gonna be hard for those satellite companies to offer you the internet speeds that you currently receive from the cable companies for the same price.
Im not a fan of sat tv but Im a fan of their prices. My buddy has Direct tv and gets some troubles durring storms, but durring Irene never lost a signal. But I lost my digital cable for 30hrs.

I got directtv and AT&T internet a few months ago and have LOTS of complaints about DirectTV.
My parents have had it for YEARS, and never have a problem unless its a crazy storm, but they are on Wadmalaw with lots of open space. Mine in Summerville goes out OFTEN, usually in the middle of something you want to see, and takes forever to come back on. I have called and complained dozens of times, and the only thing they say is it's because of the weather and nothing they can do about it.
I asked the installer the day he was hooking it up how bad it had to be for it to go out. He said "if you can look out your window and see your mailbox (20 yards away), you will have service." BULLSHIT
Hell, it doesn't even have to be raining for it to go out. If its cloudy enough, it goes out whether it's raining or not.
Other than the reception problems and the high cost, it's awesome.

6 in one half dozen in the other. Youre gonna pay more for cable, its faster, and usually more reliable. Sat. will be less monies, but less reliable, and internet is slow.

I have Direct.
I lost it today for a few minutes. I have 5 HD DVRs on my account, and I don't think comcast can touch Direct for the price.
You can't beat Sunday NFL ticket.
I use At&t for Internet. Regular AT&T sucks compared to comcast as far as speed, but I've heard U-Verse offers comparable speed. I just don't like the idea of paying $200, for someone to come out and plug up a different modem. I'll wait until they have some free offers.

I switched to direct back in February and ive only lost service twice. It was both during a bad storm. I dont have any movie channels so the price is good for me. As far as internet i have at&t dsl Ultra and it sucks when watching Youtube. (could possibly need a booster/filter) I may upgrade to Xtreme later and give it a shot or just switch back to cable internet once my contract is up.

I've had both Comcast and Knology and I prefer Comcast. Knology is slower internet speeds and higher costs for less. I have Comcast 30mbs internet and basic cable for $35 a month, can't really beat that. I use xbox live to watch movies on netflix and espn, and they're coming out with a ton of new stuff this fall.
I won't touch satellite with a 20' pole.

Same here. But never really have problems other than a hurricane. But we lost power to the house for most of the day so no cable anyway.

No TWC offered here. I don't want all the extras. I just want basic cable and internet. My bill reached $120/month for that shit, before I got a discount. Fuck that!

Not many problems. If it does go out is usually comes back on in an hour or so. Had just one major problem when a storm knocked out the cable splitter outside the house and fried the cable box. Not their fault but it took 3 or 4 days to get things straitened out.

I have DirectTV and live in Hanahan and haven't lost it yet. The price's are sick and fuckin free NFL Sunday Ticket is the shiznit! I have AT&T for internet and its not crazy fast, but I only use it to surf the web, no downloading or streaming. I have had Knology, Time Warner, Comcast, and now DirectTV and thus far I would never go back.

Direct TVs service sucks, their reception sucks, and their prices suck...but i live in a neighborhood that only have dish network and direct tv so im stuck with them til someone else offers it out here. I live next to 6 people that I went to high school with and they will all tell you the same thing. I can lose reception on a clear, crisp day if someone in Georgia sneezes to hard, and you call them to come re-adjust your dish and it takes AT LEAST 48 hours before you hear from them and then they are usually 2-5 hours late. This has happened on SEVERAL occasions with multiple of us that live in moncks corner. Just my .02

I've never had it but heard many complaints about satelite. I do know that internet speeds are not at the level of cable. On a unrelated note, I have two DISH boxes that my dead beat renters left behind. Are they worth anything? Can anyone use them??
I got DirecTV when I bought my house in 05. During football season I have 11 boxes activated, and I have the premium package. Lets just say my bill isn't very low, but I can't get sunday ticket from anyone else. The only time I lose signal is during really bad storms.
They(Hughs Net) do have internet, but it's to expensive for the speeds you get. I've had TWC internet the whole time too.

I don't seem to have any of those issues, well, except that during a heavy storm it will lose the signal. I usually have enough on the DVR to watch through the lost reception anyways. The longest it has ever been out for me is probably 1 hour maybe? I don't seem to have the high cost either...
And I also have AT&T for the internet...

Running DirecTV and AT&T internets, here. I rarely lose sat signal, unless it is raining very hard, and is very windy. The windy bit is due to the fact that there are two pine trees the dish has to look throuh. When they sway-a ton-the sat goes out. Aside from that, I am running three HD receivers plus one HD DVR and have most of the channels. My DirecTV bill is $120/month. Keep in mind that the receiver charges are about $30 of that.
As for my internet, I am using AT&T's stand-alone DSL package. I'm paying $39.95 (or something like that) for 6mbps service; and I regularly connect to Netflix through my Bluray player at 5.3-5.7.

I am at the end of my 2 year agreement with DirecTV, and I will not be renewing it. I am moving a month before the terms of the agreement are up, and they will not let me cancel the agreement just a month early, so I am forced to pay it. The reliability of the service in any weather that is not 100% sunny sucks, and you will lose reception every time it's raining, and 50% of the time when it's cloudy. I like the idea of being able to cancel service at my descretion with no penalty.......

I pay $220 a month incl taxes and fees for whole house hd dvr with 4 boxes, another regular digital box, hs internet and phone (mil insists on having one). We have all the movie channels too. What sucks is there is no discounting the phone. If I dropped the phone my bill would go down $40.
