Hello,

New guy from Knightsville SC. Just recently moved out here this year for a new job. Ive had quite a few foxbodys, all street cars, nothing full race/drag. Current car is a 88 notch, ac, ps, full interior... here are a couple pics...

No hood cause i actually just got it put together in that pic, 4 cylinder conversion.

Not as fast as you guys it seems. I went to dorchester last night just to watch and saw some pretty serious cars out there.

My fastest time to date is 11.78 @ 123 at 4psi on an a-trim and 3.55's in the 1/4.

You went 11.78 at dorchester? That's slower than a stock fox. Welcome to the site and have fun getting it quicker my friend.

Lol, if I ran an 11.78 in the 8th mile, I would trade my car for a prius and call it a day.

11.78 @ 123, fontana raceway in ca

Definitely need to get quicker regardless. But im one of "those guys" that drives my car everyday so I'm riding the fine line on whats streetable and whats not.

11.78 in the 1/4 or 1/8th?... that quick for 1/4 mile puts it @ 7.5's in the 1/8th

399stroker
10-24-2011, 01:05 PM
Sorry, guess I shoulda clarified, its 1/4 mile.

I actually had 28 spline shafts at the time, broke a shaft on my first pass, changed the shaft in the parking lot and made 2 more passes. But I was deathly scared I was going to break another shaft so I left at only 1500. 60 was only a 1.8. Ran an 11.78 @ 123 mph. I figure at that mph if I had my suspension dialed in and coulda left at a decent rpm and all things else being the same that probably would have been a bottom 11 second pass or maybe even a high 10...

Ive done alot of changes since then so I hope im mid 10's now. But I havnt been to the track since.

I desperately need a tune and I desperately need a roll bar at minimum.

But all in all im happy with my current set up, I got 21 mpg on the way out here from ca, slap a set of tires on it and run 11's. Not bad IMO but id still like to be faster.

Cracked all to hell hoods are even faster. It came off on me half track and I never got a new one, just 4 pinned it. Also the reason its still white, no sense in painting it as its afu.

Nice! I read your post about possibly wanting one. If you ever have any questions about going the 4 banger route and just converting it hit me up. Its not as bad as it sounds, and imo you end up with a better overall car in the end. Cost of the car along with the stuff I needed for the conversion, I prolly have less than 1500 in everything. NOT including driveline of course. Thats a whole nother story lol.

A small side note... insurance for me on a v8 gt is double what insurance for me is on my "4" banger car...

I had the whole setup in the greet gt for awhile before getting the notch, then transfered everything over to the notch drivetrain wise.

The blue gt I got off craigslist for 200 bucks, used it for a donor car on all the other stuff such as the pedals, fuel lines, spindles etc. Ended up selling off all the rest of the stuff for more than 200 bucks so in a round about way I got the stuff I needed for free. I still had to scrounge around for other things such as the speedo cluster, ecu, exhaust hangers, wiring harnesses etc.

Id do it again without thinking twice. Took me and another guy less than 2 weeks to convert it all over once all the parts were on hand. Both working full time jobs. Good times...

Lol, the one thing that still drives me nuts about the car is the blue interior, the blue on blue drives me insane. I was hoping it would grow on me, but NOPE sure hasnt.

Ya man that thing was a beast, I took it apart just to see where the knock was coming from, one of the rod bearings was completely gone, ate into the crank, just out of curiousity I went to autozone and bought their largest oversized bearing they had, installed it and there was still about 3/16's play in it.

Are you still in the reserves? I wish I woulda went into the reserves instead of getting completely out so I would still have a foot in the door. But it is what it is I suppose. Sure am. Been on orders for most the time I have been down here. Kinda defeats the purpose of going into the reserves but I enjoy it so not really an issue. Ive never understood why the Marines are so anti prior service. Ive known quite a few people that have the same gripe. The Army loves it though... Ha old, fat, lazy..... Pretty sure the Army has a waiver for all three!

It was in an older subdivision in CA. It was a free for all from the morning till night, but once it got dark I always cleaned up to keep them from all wanting to kill me. When we moved out we were talking to the rental agency about getting our deposit back and we were questioned about weather or not I was running a mustang repair shop out of my garage as the neighbor across the street called them to report me. Nothing ever came of it, I just thought it was funny cause they were all mine at one point in time. I have a ridiculous addiction to good deals.

Thats cool, so are you in the Army or the Air Force? I talked to an Army recruiter a couple months ago about the WOFT program but didnt realize they changed the age limit regarding it. Havnt been back to talk to anyone else though. At one point in time in my life I would not have ever considered another branch other than the Marines... Marines or nothing... but Id be willing to join any branch at this point just to get all the benefits and retirement etc back up. Be nice to get in the reserves and then activate myself everytime I got tired of Boeing. Plus I cant seem to find a downside to working on 2 retirements at the same time... win win

Car is nice. Good job on the build! Get some suspension and you'll be in the 10's.

Thanks man, I hope so!

Some people really strive for a mag article, or maybe even trophy collections at car shows etc. Who knows, whatever floats their boat right... My "goal" if I had to choose one is to have a mid 10 sec car that I can drive down the road and get 20 mpg.

Bottom line (as of right now) is it being streetable. If I get another one then Ill strongly consider going all drag with this one but right now its my dd so having somewhat decent mileage and somewhat tollerable of a ride is a must.

Car is full weight including ac, my 11.78 pass was at 4psi on an a-trim, now im at about 9psi on a sq-si trim. If I can get the power to the ground via suspension work like you said I think im there, if not I should be pretty close.

Heres my next move, trying to push my ic further forward...

Not sure how to quote just a partial, but I think your on the right track. Your adjustable uppers and solid bushings are good. Adding an anti-roll bar will make a big difference. Having adjustable shocks and struts with some coil overs up front and you might be there. If you don't have them, QA1 makes the stuff that works. You will have all the adjustability for street & strip.
