Anyone here root their Droid X with version 2.3.3? Looks like you have to download a previous version before you can root it?
My droid has been going slow and its aggravating me now. Ive already deleted just about all of my apps and was looking to root it. But now that ive done some reading it looks like a PITA. Was thinking of just doing a factory reset.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Werent you the one bitching about "that person" turning a iphone thread into a iphone vs droid thread?

Search for motorolaoneclickroot.zip
That should work for you. Then you can apply this: go to /system/bin/open in text editor - mount_ext3.sh add the following lines to the very bottom -place 2 spaces between the las line and the first line of the script-
chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
chmod 4755 /system/app/Superuser.
That should keep you with SU permissions when another update comes along.
Oh, and the iPhone sucks.... Even more so as a phone...

Fuck all yall, my Casio gzone is the fucking best phone. I can drop it and it wont break, I can submerge it and it wont get wet inside. And If I want to play angry birds, I can just throw my fucking phone at some god damn birds, that'll make them fucking angry!

That's hilarious! I still use my cameraless g'zone when I am doing pretty much any of my military stuff. Lost it over night in the Sacramento River a couple summers ago and found it in the water still on with bar of battery left! Thing is a beast!
Now I have a new idea for it when I get bored and want to play angry birds!!

Along these lines, we are getting Iphones for the firm and I have a Droid X with Verizon. My buddy wants my Droid but he has T-Mobile. What to do?

My wife is in Verizon tech support, I told her about this and she asked if you have advanced task killer or anti virus on it? If it does you would have to uninstall them cause they make the phone run very slow.

I was also told that recently, so I got rid of Advanced Task Killer. It did slow down the phone when I had it on there.

This thread reminded me of this quote then I lol'ed
They will all turn that way.....
Bottom line, if your fairly computer dumb and like a more touchy feely point and click almost dummy proof smartphone/PC. Go with apple, Its just like AOL was in the begining when internet first went mainstream, it had fancy buttons and a simple interface that even said "Welcome, Youve got mail" for the dummies that couldn't look up at the nav bar and see there was a number up there.
Meanwhile the hackers and power users used IE:1, Lunix, Netscape and the likes that werent verry user friendly but had a ton of power tools and endless modifications and options. Well thats the droid phones, while the posibilities are nearly endless because its open source its quite cumbersome for a woman or those that do not operate on at least 80% brain power. Gingerbread has added some dummy proofing but a meathead will screw up an android long before he'll screw up an I phone.

^For the droid guys.
If anyone wants their Droid rooted PM me what you think its worth.
Can have it done in a few hours tops.
Snake, T-mobile and Verizon work on different platforms, your buddy cannot use your phone.

Task killers do little to a phone more then give the user a GUI for the phones native memory manager. The native memory manager for android is very efficient and task killers are only required if the user wants the ability to manually close an application (such as a game) rather then having it cached when memory is needed other for uses. The only speed derease from them is when opening a closed app. Obviously it takes longer to open a closed app then one that has been cashed. Any system speed increase after uninstalling them is just a placebo effect...

Tell him he can use the phone.... He just has to switch to VZdubya first.

If you don't have any major issues with your Droid X, for the right price I would take it off your hands......
And I have a buddy who is the IT manager for a law firm conglomerate. Seems most law firms are using iphones for the most part....
I know windows and blackberry based phones can use an Exchange server, I think the iphone just recently released an app to use it as well.....but once droid does it should even the business end playing field of smart phones..
