And other gun peeps. I am thinking about swapping to a beavertail grip safety in my Para. Drop in or fitting required? How much fitting is required? I feel confident in my abilities and think that I could probably do everything. I dont have any mill's or lathes or equipment like that but from what Iunderstand veiwing some vids on line where to fit the safety. Have any of you guys bought a non drop in and had to work it? OR is the drop in the way to go? Ed Brown? Dan Wesson? Who's did you use?

It's kind of hit and miss, even with the so called drop in parts. Your chances are definitely better for not having to do any fitting with drop in parts vs. oversize gunsmith fit parts, though.

Even though it is a pain in the ass when you have to hand fit a so called drop-in part, at least there won't be any compromises in its function when you get done with it.

So you think I should just stick with a drop in and do a "little" fitting if needed rather than buy a one that is marked as needs fitting?

If your 1911 has the old style GI grip safety, I think the only high ride conversion replacements are the drop in variety.

Most of any internal fitting on the finger of the grip safety is in relation to where your trigger stirrup sits in your particular frame. If you have a longer than typical trigger stirrup, you will most likely need to remove a little metal from the finger to function right. If you have a normal or shorter trigger stirrup, chances are no fitting will be required.
