O.K. Ican go along with what Johnny said. I dont claim to know it all. I do not know the difference between pre-ing and detonation. I'm fairly sure what im thinking of is detonation. I know that the meaning of octain is the burn rate. and det happens because the gas ignites before the plug fires. Like a desiel ing. witch is why the call it desieling. higher octain has a slower burn rate. witch keeps it from detonating. because it does not have time to. It is also the reson why higher octain will slow a car down if it does not need it. It will not burn all of the fuel because of the slower burn rate. Less boom. I havent looked around all whole lot at this but I havent seen a price. how mutch is it. Thank you for your time. Wade :D |
The unit is $595. Optional bargraph gauge is $89.
Order before Feb. 1st and receive our new knock-finder display free. This $99 value shows which cylinders are knocking. Eight LED's peep out from the front of the Vampire control panel. Each LED is mounted above its associated coil control wire, and turns on when Vampire retards that cylinder. |

Chris:
Can you get hold of Tim Skelton for me? I see that he's in SoCal, maybe I could get a test ride with him. |

Thanks. I tried sending him an email and pm on f150, but it was disabled.

Talked to Tim yesterday. Says his L is up on jack stands for another month or so, but would be willing to play when it's back on the road.
Said he might be able to hook me up with another guy before then. He said he's running the stock tune, with a 4lb pulley and a CAI. He's an attorney in the automotive field, and said he used a Ford engineer as an expert witness in a case. The engineer explained knock, and pointed out how close to it these engines are running. Tim said there are two things that Ford should have included-traction control and knock sensing. |

I didn't know CHUXSVT had lost two motors. I pm'd him several months ago, asking if he would let me go for a ride to check for "blower whine". His reply was "not to sound lika an azz. but , what do i get out of it. this will be on the dyno right?" I told him I would make the three hour drive to his place. I would need to install it, make a few 60 to 80 mph pulls on the freeway to check for "blower whine", etc. I offered him dealer price if he decided to buy within one year. No reply. Looks like it just happened. I thought he blew both times before I pm'd him. http://www.socalloc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3310 I pm'd him originally after he posted this (see reply #8 by Rob54): http://www.nloc.net/vbforum/gen-2-li...rs-blower.html |
Lost another one to DiTech. Not a Lightning customer, but a guy called and ordered the Vampire, then emailed back a couple days later to cancel, saying his tuner had talked him out of it.

Built motors still break. See above post. |
Do any Ford tuners listen to knock sensors when tuning? Import tuners have been using them for years.
I was reading one of the broken engine threads on f150, and the guy said it blew on the dyno, in cold weather. I posted links to a few "knock amps", most costing more than my controller: http://www.theknockbox.cc/component/...page/Itemid,1/ http://boostcontroller.com/index.php?item=745 http://www.machevo.com/turboxstuner1.html http://www.wilcoxengines.demon.co.uk/knockkit.htm |
Another one on svt:
http://www.svtperformance.com/forums...d.php?t=460864 Blown engines seem to show up on svt more than anywhere else. |
oops, there's one on NLOC, but he's gonna build it bigger and stronger.
Who will bell the cat? |
Shipped one to our first tuner yesterday!
http://www.loweperformance.net/ John Lowe said it's going on a GT500, already making 900hp on stock lower end. He said they are going to run it in something called the "Pump Gas Drags" http://www.loweperformance.net/photo...T500/index.htm |
