Keep in mind the 1970 and earlier 351 Windsor blocks had a .023" shorter deck height. This difference makes about .5 point in compression ratio difference from the later blocks.

Might as well check the trans too? GL on the rebuild Shawnboy.

blubyu87gt 12-04-2011 04:33 PM

Damn man, sorry to hear. That totally sucks. Hopefully you can get it back in the road soon. Have ya started to dig into it yet?

I was gonna offer any assistance but.... Gearmesh had to go and mention the bad ju ju... :hide:

ShawnBoyMoody 12-04-2011 04:35 PM

Trans is good to go. Its a Tremec 3550 and is definitely a little under rated for the task at hand but I show it some love and try not to abuse it. Hopefully I can make it live a while.

Nosir. I havent fooled with it yet. I'll get it out one day this week. I'm in no hurry. My goal is to build a 408 or bigger that makes 500 plus on pump gas and have a lil snoot of giggle gas to handle the fast boys on the skreet. I also plan to remove some weight from the car by way of a tubular cross member and suspension up front. Street cars to the mutha fawkin front!

MonteC 12-04-2011 05:07 PM

My little 350hp ls mota aint gonna be able to keep up.

blubyu87gt 12-04-2011 05:27 PM

Well shit man... I am gonna have to step my game up then. Hell I will have to go to block splitting power just to hang!

03SVTCOBRA 01-04-2012 04:51 PM

ShawnBoyMoody 01-04-2012 04:55 PM

Smith Bros. Racing 01-04-2012 07:46 PM

Dunno. Honestly haven't thought much about it.

Smith Bros. Racing 01-04-2012 08:17 PM

a progressive would help that motor last a lot longer if you plan on shooting it all the time

Mr. Camaro 01-04-2012 08:47 PM

shit, we shoot it all from home......

Been waiting on pistons for 3 weeks now getting impatient. Feels good to get some parts that might get you rolling again soon. I still have ALOT of stuff to do/save before im anywhere close to fixed. Did you add some tires to your list of parts?

he has some...28x10.5s on Bogart GT's...

And what pistons did you go with Ryan?

03SVTCOBRA 01-04-2012 09:57 PM

Diamond pistons, hopefully they should be here next week sometime. I went ahead and got the "double diamond" coating on them so hopefully it will help some. I have everything to get my short block back together once it all gets balanced, the heads are going to kill my wallet.

Thats an easy way to spend 1000+! lol, but where you taking your heads? All I can say is that 850rwhp should be NO problem here soon :D

03SVTCOBRA 01-04-2012 10:10 PM

you are right, they were NOT cheap, but i dont want to have to do it again in a few months so ide rather do it now. CNC port here local will get the heads. Going to swap everything out and go with more agressive Comp cams.

That piston is so big it has its own gravitational pull.
