KRYPTONITE 02-22-2012 10:51 AM

gearmesh, inc. 02-22-2012 10:52 AM

Damn...That sux for shure. You must have that same black cloud that follows me following you.

Time to go find a junkyard LS1 and just spray the hell out of it! :poke:

LXtasy 02-22-2012 11:02 AM

Just remember honey moody don't give a shit. Curious on the actual cause of it. Was the motor balanced by chance? Was it just a piston or rod failure and than all hell broke loose because of harmonics being off.

Thank you sir. I'm really just In disbelief right now. Corey and I were meticulous in putting this thing together. It was running perfectly up to the moment it let go. There is so much damage in here it's hard to know what happened first. It just hiccuped once at 6300-6400 and grenaded at 6600-6700 rpm.

Anyway out with with the the old and in with the new. I'm going to part this drivetrain out over the next few weeks. Colin has graciously gifted me the 5.3 LS that I sold him from Aaron's Tahoe. The plan is to back that up with a TH-350 with a single turbo for motivation. I'm gonna be calling on my LS friends on here for information and spare parts so keep your phones close to you. I'm flat broke now so any help to get me going again would be much appreciated and is guaranteed to come back on you ten fold lol.

Rotating assy including flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disk balanced by Mike at Simons.

Feelin your pain right now man, that's a big fear of mine about building a motor. You really just never know.

If it was a clearance issue, wouldn't it have reared its ugly head sooner?

EDIT: Are those marks on the piston from valves contacting the piston face?

Those marks are from the valves but are from after the engine let go. All other pistons are free from any valve contact. That rod just kept jamming that broke off piston into the head and valves.

I'm like you it ran too good and had too good of oil pressure to be a bearing clearance issue but you never know, it could have been.

freddy231 02-22-2012 11:14 AM

did you clay the pistons at zero lash with no head gst to see how much valve clearance you had? you need at least 90 thousand to be safe. just asking. already done grenaded a few stock blocks and that is one problem i had. also the number two main check the webing in the block close.

Freddy I'll be honest I did not the piston to valve clearance on the motor. I didn't because this exact combo was fine in the old motor and I thought if anything I'd be even safer because this motor had a .020 taller deck height that I the previous 69 block I was running. I also went back with the same cam timing as before which was 4 degrees retarded. I really think the problem was at the big end of the number two rod.

KRYPTONITE 02-22-2012 11:28 AM

So whats the Plan

freddy231 02-22-2012 11:30 AM

ok sorry your having so much trouble. i broke a rod bolt last year in my good motor. did not know that the 8740 cap bolts that come in eagle rods are only good to 600 hp. now have 2000 series bolts in mine. its still a boat anchor but im having fun.

Good old Cliff. Thanks bud. Your Fab skills are a thing of beauty.

ShawnBoyMoody 02-22-2012 12:44 PM

Right now I know I'm needing a stock LS1 intake, injectors, f-body accessories (or if anybody knows another option since I don't have powersteering) a stock harness I can cut down and the little block off plate down by the oil filter. I'm also gonna be on the hunt for a TH350.

Derek 02-22-2012 12:51 PM

Pm sent

Matts94Z28 02-22-2012 01:26 PM
