need opinions
when i get back in need to get myself a car, naturally i want another cobra, but the bank (my wife) and comman sense (my wife) tell me we cant afford that much money going out in car payments (the truth lol) so i need to buy something to roll in as a DD untill the jeeps payed for then i can get my new toy. so what should i go with? im looking to spend 10k or less a part of me wants a truck that way i can fanagle a dirt bike into the garage, but then i also think something economical would be better. thoughts? also ive seen alot of vehicles with 50k to 100k+ what mileage range should i try to stay in (esp with trucks ie diesals) to have something thats going to be fairly reliable? thanks for the inputs!

Well, Shawn; it depends on how it was maintained. If you are looking for a Ford truck, anything with a 7.3 in it should basically be ok. There are not too many issues with that engine, and any that do crop up are generally not that bad to repair. Still can get expensive to fix, but not near as bad as a 6.0. If you are looking at a truck with a 6.0 it in, try to find one that is under the 5 year/100k mile mark. This way, you still have some warranty left; and you can extend the diesel engine warranty to 7yr/200k on most of the really expensive stuff.
Oh, yeah, the Powerstroke 7.3 can be found in 1999-early 2003 model trucks. The Powerstroke 6.0 is in late-build 2003s to 2007 model trucks. 2008 went to the twin-turbo 6.4. |

so a 7.3 with about 75k to 125k should be good to go?
|
As long as it has been maintained, you'll be good. We have a couple of customers, here at Jones, with over 250k on theirs.

Marauders in that mileage range are going for what you want to spend ...
