Silverado exhaust opinions

I want to do something with the exhaust on my crew cab but can't decide what to do. I've looked at all the cat back systems but also considered just having it done by a shop. I don't want anything loud, just a nice rumble, minimal interior noise, and a nice look. A lot of the cat back systems seem crazy expensive but on the other hand I have no idea what a shop will charge.

What have ya'll done? Brands? Opinions on how much to replace? Do I replace the muffler and pipes to the back or go from the cats?

It's a 5.3 bone stock now. Might put an intake on or K/N filter in the stock box. Thought about an HHP tune. Not looking for a performance truck just want to squeeze out whatever I can without killing gas mileage.

BAD BOB 11-10-2011 10:43 AM

Give me(Robert) a call at Masterbend Muffler 871-1465. i can talk you through some options. i can get some bolt on kits or can build anything you need!

k5hart 11-10-2011 10:58 AM

Bad Bob are you around tomorrow?

BAD BOB 11-10-2011 11:31 AM

im here m-f 8:30-5 lunch from 12-1:30, and sat 8:30-1

Matts94Z28 11-10-2011 11:59 AM

Let Badbob touch it with a magnaflow. You can't go wrong!

snakeplissken 11-10-2011 12:02 PM

Robert installed a dual in/out single Magnaflow on my old 5.3 hoopty and it sounds great. Not too loud and no drone.

k5hart 11-10-2011 12:05 PM

Bob, I'll call you late this afternoon or tomorrow.

BAD BOB 11-10-2011 12:12 PM

ok. and yes i was going to recommend a magnaflow also.

k5hart 11-10-2011 12:25 PM

Do you stock them? I was leaning toward Magnaflow before the post.

BAD BOB 11-10-2011 02:33 PM

i have some but can usually get them real quick depending on what you want. Just give me a call and ill see what we can work out

04ctd 11-10-2011 08:25 PM

we put one of these on our Tahoe, and it sounds great.

FWIW, i would let Robert put it on, it was annoying to cut it all off & get it all skrate,
then i had to take it & have it all tacked anyways.

PM me if you wanna hear in person around s'ville, sounds awesome, but never "loud"

it does look like poop, so I sanded & polished the muffler prior.

That has a great sound! Nice polish job too.

I'm going to try and get the truck to Robert tomorrow or Sat. depending on his schedule and mine. I think we came up with a good plan using a Magnaflow.

yota 11-11-2011 12:29 AM

magnaflows sounds really nice on the 5.3's imo... i went with a pypes violator on my tahoe instead though and love it... with the stock manifolds it had a nice rumble and no drone- with the headers it's loud as hell though haha...here's a video of the pypes muffler with manifolds:

and he's closed today!

k5, call him if you are driving up.

i got my car out & all the parts, and got there and they were closed.

i went to midas down on old trolley (by perkins) and their welder builds roundy-round cars, so he put in the subframes for me in a hour and half, but the manager charged me 2.5 hours labor. so it cost more than double what Bad Bob charges for SFC's, but i got them on after ~3 years.

Thanks for the business! You were a pleasure to deal with and im glad i got you what you wanted!

csikx 11-12-2011 11:28 PM

Love the set up! Truck looks great.

I wish I would have known about Bob before I took mine to Jimmy's (Rivers Ave.)

Derek 11-13-2011 08:05 AM

Wow I'm loving those tips and the way they are turned.

k5hart 11-13-2011 10:56 AM

Thanks ya'll! I wanted side exit but Robert had the idea of doing them the way we did. He has a similar setup on his truck. It's a little different but in a good way!

Robert, you'll get my future business! :cheers

Wish you were closer though. Guess it gives me a reason to visit around S'ville.

AverageJoe 11-13-2011 01:02 PM

I like the tips too, put my Gibson tips on like that back in 05

Silver-Dollar 11-13-2011 07:22 PM

Welded on or bolted on tips? Either way, pain in the ass to keep clean. I had Gibson Super Truck on mine. Eventually, I just took them off because they got nasty. Every time I washed them, I would bleed too.

this

which of course, leads to thread drift:

Medical examiner: Cactus Car Wash robber's death is homicide

He was taken to the hospital after suffering some sort of a medical problem when a group of bystanders thwarted his attempt to steal a money bag from a car wash employee. According to news reports, the people sat on Jackson, holding him down until police arrived.

Be sure to go to cactus! Not the guys who run a mobile business geared towards locals!

Welded. I'll take my chances on keeping them clean. If the get nasty I'll have Robert replace them. Hopefully I won't bleed but it's probably going to happen if the chance is there.

Nice thread drift! Cactus robber got what's coming to him. Try to stay away from those places when I can.

schardbody 11-14-2011 08:54 PM

anybody run a magnaflow single exit? i prefer single exit but havent seen/heard any on the 4.8/5.3/6.0 trucks.

might come see you tomorrow robert, you have a single exit magnaflow that you can fit to my 00 silverado? PM me with some details if you want.

BAD BOB 11-14-2011 09:10 PM

my truck actually has a single exit but goes to dual tips right at the end. i can usually get them pretty quick if i dont have them and i dont think i have any that will be what your looking for. the only one i have in stock thats 3"/3" single is a big body muffler that wont have much sound. give me a shout tomorrow and we can figure out what you want
