RoB's Ton of Boost Build.... Day 1
It's here, the chevy's next "little" mota. Goal? Ton of boost and keep it together. I've gone pretty far on the stock stuff, really excited to see where I can go on a forged setup.
Looking to be a little different then most LS builds. Won't be the standard 370/408 iron block and 90+mm. It will be a small cube build. I want to keep the walls thick and the weight down. I plan to use some thick deck heads and let the boost make up for displacement. The way I always have. :cheers The block is a L33 5.3/327 Aluminum block. Looking to get a light bore and clean up to get me started. Need some recommendations on a good local machine shop. Next will be ordering a forged rotating assembly and picking out the crank stroke. The build won't happen over night, i'm currently in no rush as long as the 4.8L can hold on the rest of this year. I'd like to have it ready to fire off first of next year though. Thanks guys, I'll keep this thread updated along the way. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/f1ef96c0.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/64eebc9b.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/8fdbb6be.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/a445a98a.jpg |

Very nice, looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
|
what made you decide on the aluminum block? i couldnt imagine it will handle the load you are putting on the iron block now.
|
Nice Rob!
Simmons does all my machine work, their about the best around with mod motors. Not sure how the do on the GM stuff, but I'll tell you this, if you rush them you may have bad luck. if you let them just do it, ive never personally had a prob. |

dons is the only local place i would trust.

The sleeve have enough meat on them to be bored to 3.905 and still handle a power adder. I'm just looking to clean them up to 3.80 or so. Thats one reason I went 5.3 instead of ls1 was for the sleeve thickness.
|
id say S&R for machine work, and good luck on the build Rob! I can only imagine what its gonna do now lol.

Is that the place who "Race Balanced" a set of pistons for you?

I've also read and been told the 5.3 was the strongest stock LS aluminum block. The have the most meat in the sleeves and I think paired with the right heads it should be one hell of a boost engine. It's a different way of going about it, but I really like the 80+ pounds removed from between the front tires and taking a different path. Only one way to find out. Info on the bores from "Motorbooks/Workshop, GM LS-Series Engines" Thanks for the info Brandon, ill check into those guys. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...1/d443d232.jpg |

Honeycutt did my first forged ls1. Never had a problem with it.

I don't think that block will hold 2000lbs of boost. Just sayin.

I'll likely start on the 2 bar and see if I can keep control of it. If not I'll look more into a computer swap as mine only goes up to 2-Bar. |

i think your looking for someone that can do a good job honeing a block and I would be looking for someone that has a torque plate for a LSmota

Honeycutt; Super nice people and they know what they are doing (866-441-9900)Jim or Jimbo.
|
Honeycutt it is. I'm still up in the air if I want to assemble it. It's a good chuck of $$$ to make a little error some where and jack up the whole build.
