Anyone do any backpacking/camping/kayaking?
Buddy of mine invited me to go camping with him, his girl, and her family...headed up to Virginia(an open carry state ;) ) Friday morning...I've been getting together gear for the past few weeks ( internal frame backpack, lightweight backpacking tent, back, fire starting shit, backpacking stove etc...)...were already tossing around the idea of doin some kayaking either this fall or next spring...there is a 58 mile canoeing/kayaking route on the edisto with several areas to pull up and camp...should be a good 3-4 day trip if paced...anyone else do any outdoor adventures?...gear used?:..I'll post some of my stuff up later
|
heres the gear ive collected so far... Coleman Max 65L backpack, Coleman Max 2person backpacking tent, Alpine Design 45* Mummy Bag, 10 mil tarp for ground cloth, Coleman Max Anodized cookware, MSR Pocket Rocket backpacking stove, and a headlamp, basic toiletries + babywipes for insurance...sewing kit..couple knives and guns I already had...beanie, gloves, jacket, etc....
I appologize for the shitty pics in advance http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...F1AB40E17E.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...F1A6D99AD2.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...F1A100919B.jpg Im goin later this week to grab a few more things(stuff sacks, hiking shoes, pack saw, platypus, nalgenes, meds etc |
I think Deliverance was filmed there.....

Did ya watch Red Dawn lately or something..lol
|
I have hiked my fair share of gorges, rapids, and trails, and I love kayaking.....On a side note, Hammock camping is the way to go, tents are out IMO......
|
That is entirely too much gear for hiking/camping lol. You don't need half of that stuff, and you will be regretting it when you're hiking with all that weight. Minimalism is the key. I used to go a lot but haven't been in a while. Planning a trip for later this year though.
|
I agree with Forcefed. WAY to much shit to carry... with that said however I see three knives and not one of them is a hatchet. You going to saw logs and limbs for fires with a pocket knife?

Also I may have missed it but I didn't see any food or fishing equipment. Even if you plan on making it back to base camp at night you will probably want some canned food in case you can't make it back when you get hungry.
|
Looks like you're going to the woods to grow some green and brew white lightening. I don't camp at all, but there is no way I would try to bring all that shit.
|
Camping without beer ?
That's just silly. |
My pack with gear, clothes, water, and food is 43.5 lbs...I can handle that easily...picked up a pack saw today and will be batoning most of the wood with the kabar...i do not plan to stay in the woods for a few days and take the BARE essentials
|
I live in macedonia. Everynight i camp.

Wheres the alcohol

Dont forget a shovel to dig a hole so you can poop in. Bears will get you if you dont bury poop.

There is an outhouse where we're Goin...still got a few items to get for a

Check out some jungle hammocks. They are hammocks with mosquito netting and a rain fly.

Bears are definately here. Several reported sighting on the Marrington trails and we have seen tracks on our property in St. Stephens.

And what gear shown is not necessary?...ground tarp, shelter, sleeping bag, stove, cookware, utensils,a few sources of fire, few sources of light, couples knives, toiletries, beanie, and something to carry it all in?...batteries die, knives dull or break, and my ass needs wiping. I'm carrying clothing for 2 days on a 4 day trip..no sleeping pad or pillow, no chair, no gps, etc....I'm not Bear Grylls for christs sake
|
want to see alot of gear?
8 Part backing gear video..not all gear is used at one time...but here is someone that has accumulated a bunch and has different systems for different scenarios http://youtu.be/tZDbj1gNmsA http://youtu.be/-j1Zm1f8SCM http://youtu.be/E9aZscMZ9sY http://youtu.be/tv2Mw5PwDew http://youtu.be/X98SPs8dPh8 http://youtu.be/UbDJGiqvt4c http://youtu.be/L4moc4gA4ho http://youtu.be/D8J5kR0sYRM |

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...82E3942CA8.jpg had a pretty good time...learned a few things...my pack is 65L and the smallest i would ever take..I took the tarp and tent inside the pack..and it was stuffed to the max...so strapping it to the outside would be more beneficial...used almost all of the gear i took...minus the cold weather clothing bc it was a good 10-15* warmer than the last 5 times my buddy went...3 days wasnt near enought...was fairly clear at the peak and could see forever http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...829E0CBD7D.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...82A805F428.jpg http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j4...82BDB5250C.jpg |
so why didnt you just camp in the backyard? you took everything ever made with you
|
1) bc i was invited by a friend
2) dont think my apt complex would approve 3) VA has open carry 4) Im not a little bitch and can comfortably carry 40-60 lbs on my back unlike some 5) I would much rather have stuff i MIGHT need when im 6 hrs away from home and 30 min from a decent store, restaurant, or hospital |
Careful with that open carry stuff. People might think youre crazy...
