New Track Viper

Pretty Badass:

Chrysler's high performance SRT division has unveiled an even more track focused version of the recently reborn Viper coupe. Powered by the same 640 hp, 600 lb-ft torque 8.4-liter V10 as the rest of the lineup, the Viper TA (Time Attack) gets an updated suspension featuring adjustable dampers with settings for Smooth and Rough surfaces, retuned springs, new stabilizer bars and a carbon fiber x-brace under the hood to stiffen the chassis.

The brakes have been updated for better heat management, and a new carbon fiber front splitter and rear spoiler were added for improved aerodynamics.

The changes add up to a new production car lap record at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. If you want to try to beat it yourself, empty your Cypriot bank account and get your order in soon. SRT is building just 33 Viper TAs in Crusher Orange paint for $120,500 a pop starting this fall.

At 2 seconds a lap faster; in road course racing, that is more appropriately called "monkey stomped". In 2.5 laps, the vette wouldn't even be visible to the viper.

looks like a two part jelly bean, or mabye a skittle.

oddly disconjuctive shape. like two lumps lumped together at the back of the bowl.

Has Laguna Seca become our Nurburgring?

Basically... but the ring is currently for sale... I hope someone buys it and keeps it public.

BIRDMAN 03-19-2013 12:34 PM

Yeah I hear about that. Hold on while I email Jay Leno. Lol

Oh, you mean when the ZR1 was on race tires and the Viper was on all season's? that test? lol

btw, my Challenger "monkey stomped" your vette at a red light. could have been the tires though:poke:

ShawnBoyMoody 03-19-2013 01:03 PM

Does this monkey who stomps own a dremel?

ZR1 on factory tires/Viper on factory tires........... Anything else is monkey with a dremel.

:poke:

our cars are not apples to apples comparisons in any category. I'd monkey stomp you in the turns and you'd return the favor in the 1320.

we can pro/con all day

the undisputable fact is that the ZR1 was on a factory optioned "street tire".

Oh, something just dawned on my Ray; you're a mopar fan............ now I understand.

I thought the ZR1 was on production tires.

Put that FastNFurious Challenger up against his vette on a roadcourse if you want to use that analogy correctly, given this context. But even then it will be incorrect since it's supposed to be between stock production cars.

Don't forget that the ZR1 was a ringer because it came factory equipped with a Trunk Monkey and dremel.

ShawnBoyMoody 03-19-2013 01:20 PM

Did birdman just reference a fast n furious car?

it has nothing to do with me being a mopar fan, I didn't say anything when that video of the viper getting "monkey stomped" when it was posted.

I just thought I would have fun with your remark you made.

and here is the deal on the tires on the ZR1s

copy and pasted

Specific to the ZR1, the 285/30-19 front and 335/25-20 rear tires use a different compound from that of the normal PS2s (which can also be found on the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V), designed to deliver ultimate track performance while retaining the ability to last for 20,000 miles of road use. We're guessing burnouts may reduce their life expectancy substantially.

Ray, Ray, I know, I know..... I know you were picking and I'm cool with that trust me..................
That is all correct. But the tires they had on that car "are" options when ordering and "are" street legal tires you can order from tire rack.
just tossin it back to ya!

against a 3k pound car with a 50/50 weight balance 14/13" rotors with 6-piston calipers and independent suspension?????? That's not a dance you would have liked Ray.

Hate to see you sold the Challenger, was my second favorite musclecar in Charleston only to red 69Camaro with white stripes in the Low Country Musclecar club. I'd trade my car today with that guy if he was interested.

thanks, I like the black car better. you can buy touch up paint at any hardware store

RoadconeTuning 03-19-2013 02:15 PM

i find it funny that the time attack package comes with normal ass street tires... thats their own fault for putting an inferior tire on the car... they went thru the trouble of redoing the suspension and going with Aero but not to put a proper tire on the car?

it has always been like that since they first started making them

DolSVT00 03-19-2013 02:46 PM

You can put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig.

GreebeanZ28 03-19-2013 04:11 PM

911 GT3's come with those "race tires" from the factory as well. Nobody ever complains about it when they do it. Weird.

LXtasy 03-19-2013 04:48 PM

In the 80's merkurs were running these tires from the factory.
