top dog?

What was this whole top dog thing about it was started and finished before i joined. What would it take to start it back? And are there any major rules for it? Seem pretty cool from what i read of it.

Need someone to be in charge of it. Making rules so that everyone is happy will be the difficult part. I did enjoy participating in it though.

NesbittRacing1 06-04-2013 05:02 PM

It seems like you would almost need to have 2 classes one for the race cars and one for the street cars so it would be fair to everyone.. I think the less rules the better cause it would be less to complain about.

1998ta__1991rs 06-04-2013 05:04 PM

the only rule before was it had to be a tagged and insured street car, you could trailer it there but back then we did the race at bowman so most people did trailer up.

so if i had tag on my car I would of been able to race in it? Or did it have to be a full "streetable" car?

BAD BOB 06-04-2013 05:31 PM

Tag and insurance. It is fun if everyone is able to work the time out to go.

NesbittRacing1 06-04-2013 05:35 PM

I like them rules simple as it gets. if the races we're set up for Saturday or.Sunday it would be easier for everyone to go to instead of a Friday night

Cant do it. Nobody agrees on the definition of street car and race car.

Top dog is dead and it needs to stay dead.

BlackSheep 06-04-2013 07:18 PM

I think it would be cool to bring back, run it along similar guidelines as hot rod does drag week to determine "street car" status. Leave from a predetermined location as a group, allow chase trucks and trailers, run a 40 or 50 mile trip, pull into the track and run as you sit on the street, only change being air pressure, etc. For race cars only, leave as a convoy, arrive at the track on trailers and run. Both classes being run what you brung and hope you brought enough.

Matts94Z28 06-04-2013 07:24 PM

Rob is so angry.

Lmao. OK. If you think that will work here I've got some ocean front property in colorado to sell you.

Lololololol

BAD BOB 06-04-2013 09:04 PM

Unfortunately the street car top dog won't work bc of the issue of that a street car is. Although just having one top dog list works but then the slower cars probably won't have as much fun

1998ta__1991rs 06-04-2013 09:25 PM

Use drag week rules for street car and drive to the track. No trailer cars. Problem solved

People still cry and bitch and try and skirt the rules by trailering and then "driving" through the gate. Nobody is willing to compromise.

Pesce Nero 06-04-2013 09:45 PM

Shawnboy, nice avatar

When it was saturday afternoons at Bowman, it was alot of fun. Sunday nights at Dorchester is impossible because everyone really needs to be in a close group and its hard to do at Dorchester

Everyone has a street car till the race gas runs out

NesbittRacing1 06-04-2013 09:48 PM

have a trailer class where if your car is trailered to the track you race cars on the trailer list and if your on the street car list, who ever you call out on the list meet in a mutual spot and both drive to the track same distance together so there wont be fussing about it not being able to make the drive to track and still race

NesbittRacing1 06-04-2013 09:49 PM

or do like bad bob said and just have one top dog list and it be run what you brung and hope to you brung enough

that sounds good. Now where you gonna do it?

Jimmyz18 06-04-2013 10:00 PM

I like the idea of bringing it back

I guess could find out from everybody which day of the weekend would be better for them then find out what tracks are open them days or just take a vote on tracks

your off on the wrong foot already. Having a vote or getting input from anyone will just make you load your AR15 clips

Chillerman 06-04-2013 10:42 PM

Josh, It was a lot of fun when it first started. Not that many cars were in it, then it got popular and everybody wanted in. Your not gonna get everybody to agree on the rules, especially when it comes to street car / race car definition, tags, insured, and everything else. It got really crazy to organize, Ray did a great job in the early days, but it just got to damn difficult to keep up with and put up with the whining that took place. Maybe you could do a 5, 6, 7, and 8 second classes where everybody could get in where they fit in. Who knows, the list can be endless for the direction we could go. I had fun, made it to the number 3 spot, had my shot at number 1 and lost to Robert when I put my car on the bumper. If it comes back, I may participate if it works out.

dkbmxer002 06-04-2013 10:46 PM

alright i would say do it at Dorchester on Sundays simply because Dorchester Is a close track for most on this board, and Sunday seems to be a good free day for most ppl that work and stuff

Street Tire Shootout > *

over 200 treadwear... 2WD only... if you want to put a michelin on a promod you've still got the same disadvantage...

Yeah. People were still crying about that.

dkbmxer002 06-05-2013 09:59 AM

I think the best way to weed out race cars in thr street car class is drive 30-40 miles or whatever from one location to the track.

DolSVT00 06-05-2013 10:00 AM

Gotta have AC. That will fix it all, any tire any engine. It could be a go cart with tubs and steam roller tires If it has AC its a street car.

90% of your race cars are done with that 1 rule.

^^^^this, and run what you brung...no driving anywhere, no who has A/C and who doesn't.....seems like alot of guys always have an excuse. My car can't hang with most of the race cars here, but I still enter the shootouts because it's FUN and you never know what can happen.....no excuses from me.

Exactly that was my point of bringing this up cause it fun to go out and race ppl at the track instead of going there and just making single passes by yourself. It didn't matter how the rules are set somebody is going to cry about it either way

Don't need any of that, just AC and done. That alone solves the street car debate.

I don't care if its a top fuel dragster if it has ac its a street car.

No matter how you do it or what rules are argued, that 1 rule and only that rule will clear the field of race cars.

Everyone has an opinion of what a street car is and their race car no matter how setup is a street car to them. Make them have to have AC and they all become race cars again. Get on rivers avenue at 5:00 pm and drive from aviation to Ashley phosphate, if you have any measurable sweat on your balls when you get there its because you got a fucking race car.

Matts94Z28 06-05-2013 11:18 AM

I need my system recharged... I got a temporary race car.
