4th gen camaro rears

Are the rears in the V6 cars the same as the V8 cars? The car I just got has a 3.90 gear in it. I dont really like it. I want a 3.42. We just got a junk 99 V6 car with a 3.42 and a locker. If its the same I'll use it.

something about 3 ch & 4ch ABS, but i forget what years, can you tell by looking how many sensors it has?

RoadconeTuning 09-11-2013 04:09 PM

3 and 4 ch is traction control vs no traction control IIRC. either way you've got to use the right one to retain ABS and traction control

schardbody 09-11-2013 05:04 PM

roadcone got it right.

the actual rear is the same minus the carrier and abs/tcs.

RoadconeTuning 09-11-2013 05:11 PM

also wtf dont you want a 3.90 in that car for? it needs a 4.33!

DIGGLER 09-11-2013 05:59 PM

got a 3.90 in mine. i like it, but its a grandpa cruiser. lol

wade w 09-11-2013 09:18 PM

My girlfriend drives this thing everyday. Im just trying to get some MPG out of it. I'll keep the 3.90 rear. If I dont like the 3.42. I'll change it back, but I dont see that happening. Hell it changes to second before you get across the intersection the way it is now. I'll check on the 3 and 4 chanel thing tomorrow.

DIGGLER 09-11-2013 10:11 PM

not worth changing the gear, imo. at least thats what my lazy a55 says. might help a teensy bit, but wont be a big savings. would take forever to recoup the gear/install cost. 4 channel abs came on cars with traction control. if your car has the button on the dash, it should be 4 channel. otherwise, its 3 channel.

wade w 09-11-2013 11:13 PM

Its not going to cost me anything. We paid $300 for the V6 car that has the rear I want. We will end up getting $400. When we scrap it. I got a lot of parts off it. And there is more to it than just the MPG. The gear in it whines, and it sees a lot of highway miles. Get tired of it turning 3000 rpm. It has a slp loud mouth. It lives up to its name.

schardbody 09-11-2013 11:53 PM

Better off putting quiet exhaust on it. The gear won't make but about 150rpm difference on the highway.

94FormulaBird 09-12-2013 12:09 AM

i had LTs, ORY, and LM1 on my lt1...that paired with 3.42s behind an auto...dont bother answering a call while driving...

i would swap an overdrive trans in there.

wade w 09-12-2013 12:40 PM

It has a overdrive. It turns 2800 at 80. Its going to make more than a 150 rpm difference. I'll look it up when I get back home.

pontiac_boy 09-12-2013 01:23 PM

I've got a 3ch with 3:23s ill trade you for that 3:90 rear.

you're right about 300rpm difference.

RoadconeTuning 09-12-2013 01:51 PM

if you want mpg put a 2.73 gear in it from an auto back in it... you'll stay in 1st thru the 1/8th

Matts94Z28 09-12-2013 02:25 PM

My car has 4.11's, auto, and a badbob customs bullet dumped at the axle. It sucks.

I allready have a complete 3.23 and a 3.42 rear. I,ll keep the 3.90 incase I dont like the 3.42s.

wade w 09-12-2013 08:47 PM

Im not looking to kill it completely. Just tame it down a bit. And really anything I lose with the gear. I can get right back and then some with a converter. The car see,s a lot of inerstate and highway miles. Converter wont hurt the MPG on the highway.
