72' Gran Torino Sport I picked up

Found it on cl and couldn't resist. Needs a couple hours of work but is a solid car. 302 with 3 speed on the column.

PapaBear 03-29-2014 03:41 PM

Nice! I've always liked those cars.

lilpanther 03-29-2014 03:47 PM

I saw that listed awhile back and it looked like it was in good shape. I had a chance to buy a 72' formal roof but the floors were rusted out and the roof was solid bondo.

usmcgunner 03-29-2014 03:56 PM

Very nice car. I've always liked to Torino's. Are you keeping the 302 in it?

1SMKN99 03-29-2014 04:18 PM

Haha thanks! I love it. Cant wait to fix the brakes and start driving it. And yea I plan to leave the 302 in unless I come across a free or super cheap windsor, I will definitely put a cam, intake, carb and aluminum heads on it

Cool to see an old car looking so good. That thing is nice as is and has a lot of potential.

Bradleyrj 03-29-2014 09:35 PM

Used to have one with a Cleveland in it. Sucker would fly.

Pesce Nero 03-29-2014 10:46 PM

manual 3 on the tree? in a "sports" car?

thats nice!

If you start using some of the lines that Clint Eastwood used in the movie Gran Torino, then you'll truly be badass!

schardbody 03-30-2014 10:59 AM

Better off leaving the 302 in it alone or swapping to a roller 5.0 bottom end.

cliff-1972 03-30-2014 12:14 PM

Good looking car:bigthumb:.Friend in high school had one.His had the 351CJ in it.Not fast out the hole but great on the top end.

I had forgot all about the Cleveland being called a 351 CJ for 72/73. You must be a wealth of knowledge....

schardbody 04-03-2014 05:42 PM

Changed your mind I see.....

gearmesh, inc. 04-03-2014 07:19 PM

The higher performance 351 Clevelands of the day had monster sized ports in the heads and an open combustion chamber. Those engines didn't wake up good until about 3500 to 4000 rpm. Awesome platform for the rpm range of a tunnel ram intake.

Ours was WEAK out of the hole. Crusing at 55 and frog stomp it and it got plum violent.
