Drag Race Fundraiser PLEASE!

Okay, im not going in to a lot of detail right now until I know more information on the situation. What I do know is that Marcus' (Kryptonite) sister is in the hospital in critical condition. Her name is Kelsey and she is only 14 years old and had an extremely unexpected medical problem.
She got real sick and went to the hospital to get better, where she is still, and has only gotten worse. From what I understand, she had some bacteria in her chest that has now moved to practically taking over her heart. She is on life support and in a medical induced (spelling??) coma. Shes been under the knife and they are doing everything they can right now and not certain of the next step. Its all in time.
She is at MUSC and has been there for about a week now I believe.
I just wanted to get something together within the next few months and try and get the BIGGEST TURNOUT POSSIBLE! This is already an expensive journey for her parents and it isnt going to get any cheaper. No health insurance.

I have no clue how to put on a fundraiser, especially a drag race, but I would greatly appreciate ANY help towards making this happen so we can help the family out.

In the mean time, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers! She seems to be a fighter.
O yea, on a racing note, she is supossed to start in Juniors this year from what I understand!

Thanks
Brandon

Sorry to hear about this Marcus. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help. We will keep you guy's in our prayers.

Mike 03-12-2009 09:39 PM

Wow that's awful. Truely sorry to hear about that. Let me know if there is anything I can do.

Pesce Nero 03-12-2009 09:47 PM

Mel had me in tears at work today and i'm not a religous person but i said a few prayers for the Cox family today.

Marcus' parents treat me much better than mine do and Kelsey is such a wonderful girl. not deserving of this at all

slowgreen99 03-12-2009 09:52 PM

So do yal think we could get something together??? Any help is better than none. And like Ray said, she is not deserving of this at all. Im gonna try and talk with Midways owner about helping me put something together. Thats where Marcus and Marion race a lot, and are well known by most of the drag racing world. This is the least we can do to help. Go have some fun and try and help Kelsey all in one shot.

Pesce Nero 03-12-2009 09:55 PM

i'll help in any way.

chrisheltra 03-12-2009 10:04 PM

Im here to help and I would pay almost any amount to race for this cause.

What help do you need?

slowgreen99 03-12-2009 10:09 PM

I need to know pretty much where to start. Im HOPING a track will let this event happen for very little cost or free. All funds going to the Cox family. I just dont know how to do it or if thats even a good idea?? IDK

Darryl Buckner 03-12-2009 10:11 PM

Let me know I am in!!

slowgreen99 03-12-2009 10:15 PM

My plans:

Talk to Midway or Dorchester or Bowman owners
Set a date for a Saturday with the following Saturday being the make up day
Get flyers made up and put everywhere
Expect for the biggest turnout possible

Ill even stand out and take in all the money all day and not race. I just want this to happen to help them out.

I was told by Bad Bob to make it a bracket race, but I dont think people will want to bracket race for free so maybe have a payout?? I really am clueless, just thought it was a great idea seeing as how Marcus, Marion, and one day Kelsey have dragracing in their blood.

Pesce Nero 03-12-2009 10:21 PM

need to get robert involed. they know everyone.

next, we do something like donate a part. everyone has something new or slighty used that is a good sellable part that is sitting on a shelf. have a huge vendor spot setup and all monet for donated part sales go to Cox's.

another thing, get HOOTERS involved. ever bring your car to street warriorz night. i did ONCE!! the staging lanes were backed up down the return road. hot chicks brings guys out.

maybe someone here knows a band that could come out there

need to put flyers out as far a darlington

Superman will chime in when he reads this im sure.
But do you think people would come out and race for no payout? I would hands down, but I know the family so thats a whole other ball game.

thanks alot brandon, and thank you everyone thats helping, this is truly the hardest thing ever, kelsey is so small but so strong, just a little update, kelsey had the flu and after several days the she developed fluid in her lungs, which had one side completly shut down and the other close to it also her whole stomach was also filled up, she was put on a breathing machine at first and then moved her into ICU where she was then induced into a coma and was completly not breathing on her own, at this time they put her on 100% life support. they told us that on a scale to 1 to 10 10 the worst she was a 9 and she had a 30% chance, after that there was two lines (about the size of 3/8 hoses) put into her neck pumping blood out of her body and into a machine whiched put oxygen into the blood and then pumped back into her body, on top of that they where fighting her blood pressure, as all of this happened the fluid that was in her lungs and stomach turn into a virues and bacteria which moved into her heart, shutting down one side of her heart she just got out of surgry where they put two hose the size of garden hoses into her growing where they went up to her heart and put a drain in, right now they said that she a 30% chance that she will be fine with no problems 30% chance that she will need open heart surgry and have to put valves in her heart and 30% chance a heart trance plant and im not going to say what the other 10 % is, but they said we are looking up to 6 months and that its possible that she wont even live a normal life, this is really hard for me and my family and hope nobody has to go threw this, thank yall so much besides my son my sister is my best friend in the whole world, she was going to start her first Year in JR draster class this year and thats all she talked about, she is strong, and is holding on, she should not have to go threw this at all, i would take her place in a heart beat, and never think twice i love her so much and to see her suffer like this is hard, just want to hold her and tell her I love her, i believe in my heart that the god i serve is way bigger this bacteria and virues and she is going to get threw this, this is now the 4th day in ICU and on life support and only about 6 hours of sleep but god is bigger and my sister will come home!!!!!!!!!

THANK YALL SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR PRAYER BUT DONT STOP BECAUSE ITS A LONG LONG HAUL,,,,

Robert Holton 03-12-2009 11:41 PM

Man i was shocked to hear the news today when my dad told me the horrible news. i am willing to help in any way i can. I will go with you to talk to the track owner brandon i seem to know him pretty well, im thinking to put on a bracket race in her name and all entry fee and buy back money go towards her and just race for a trophy or a plaque, im not in this sport to make a dime, i just do it for fun. I am going to Rockingham on the 20th of this month for the civil wars, i usually do pretty good up there, any dime that i win, if i win, will go to the cox family...

Robert Holton 03-12-2009 11:58 PM

Man Marcus I am so sorry to hear this. If you and your family need anything, let me know. I know how it is back and forth to the hospital so food and stuff like that let us know.

As for fund raisers, I am in to race too. Also, we could do a car show with proceeds going to the family too. I would think that we could raise a lot with both events.

rm1 03-13-2009 12:24 AM

Sorry to hear the news, hope things turn out for the best. I'm in for a fund raiser.

Jeff 03-13-2009 01:12 AM

Man Marcus I'm truly sorry to hear about this . I'm all for doing a fundraiser I don't have anything to race but I can donate some money .

Mike 03-13-2009 01:21 AM

I set up a paypal account kelsey@carolinahorsepower.com. If anyone wants to donate please paypal the money to kelsey@carolinahorsepower.com

Please only use "e-check" or paypal transfer. Do not use a credit card, that way we can raise as much money as possible, and avoid all the paypal fees remember no credit card.

if you have to use a credit card: paypal it to m202748@hotmail.com, fees will be less than the donation account, but still around 3%.

Accepting donations to kelsey@carolinahorsepower.com using paypal.

I will also edit Brandon's original post with a list of people who donated unless you tell me to keep it anonymous.

Mike 03-13-2009 01:47 AM

I also added information on top of the home page.

clubracergt1 03-13-2009 06:38 AM

Marcus, this is unbelievable bad news. I wish your sister and your entire family all the best.

I think a show & shine/swap meet/race is a brilliant idea. True that alot of people will not bracket race for just bragging rights; but, I think, a trophy should be sufficient. I know I would do it for nothing more than seat time and giving to a worthy cause, but there are some "What's in it for me?" people out there. How much paved area is there at Midway? I could maybe even see if the local SCCA folks would like to set up an AutoX there. Hell, the more people you cater to, the greater the turnout can potentially be.

chrisheltra 03-13-2009 06:40 AM

I just got payed today. Gotta pay my bills and see how much I can donate.

BAD BOB 03-13-2009 07:46 AM

fundraisers are usually successful. I will donate some exhaust work or something like that to try and boost the sales. Anyone with a shop or a service she do the same if they can manage to. Times are tuff right now for almost everyone but if people throw thing out there in a raffle many will be happy to spend a few dollars and try there luck to win something to help them out! The Cox Family i have know since i was small, grew up with most of the kids and they are one of the greatest people i have ever met. They would do anything for anyone any they dont deserve this. They are strong and will make it through this but they sill need help with the bills so EVERYONE PLEASE DO WHATS IN THERE POWER TO HELP OUT THIS FAMILY IN NEED!

WWhittle 03-13-2009 08:59 AM

Sorry to hear the news. I have a little sister too and couldn't imagine what you and your family are going through.

As far as setting up a race- i would try to do it with as much notice as possible and try to pay attention to any other events on the same day. do test and tune and maybe a 8.0, 7.0, 6.0 shootout.

I don't know if i would do it at Midway. Their spectator turnout is usually pretty low and that is where the majority of your money is going to come from. I would try Bowman. Maybe the track would be willing to let you keep the gate fees and they could make the concessions and tech card fees. Just a thought.

Pesce Nero 03-13-2009 09:20 AM

i dont have 2 cents to rub together to donate so we better do something somewhere

BigdaddyDupree 03-13-2009 09:29 AM

man this has to be rough on marcus. but you and your family will be in my prayers buddy

slowgreen99 03-13-2009 09:55 AM

Well, the Bowman track guy is on here correct? Ronald I believe? If they can give me a schedule of what they have planned, then we may be able to work around it. On another note, Midways turnout would probably be a lot different due to the cause of the race. Thats why flyers and word of mouth are going to need to be the strongest part of this, aside from Kelsey.
A date is the first step towards getting it done. I work with one of the guys that used to work the track at Midway, and he is supossed to get me Frank Lamberts number. He said hed be the man to talk to, not the owner.

Chillerman 03-13-2009 09:46 PM

Marcus, I don't even know you or your family. I've just read your posts on the forum. I realize this is a very, very difficult time for you and your family. I'm in tears at the moment trying to type this post as your sisters condition has truly touched & made me sad. I'm glad to know your family has God in their life. He truly is bigger than life, and miracles do happen. Please be strong for Kelsey, I can't even imagine what your feeling right now. No child should have to endure this. MUSC is definitely the place for her to be. The best childrens hospital around, period. We will keep Kelsey and your family in our prayers, and will also have our church family do the same.

I'm in no way any kind of organizer, but I'm willing to donate and participate in any kind of race that gets put together.

Marcus, I am so sorry to hear about your sister. No one deserves to go through an ordeal like this. The best possible thing you can do for your sister is keep yourself and your family positive, it will probably be one of the hardest things you have ever done but if you surround yourself with good friends it will help. Your family will be in my thoughts.
