3.08 Gear

i currently have 3.55's and debating on going to 3.08's? its a DD car and i rarely track it..

MonteC 01-13-2012 07:06 AM

Id stick with the 3.55's and do the GM o/d upgrade.

ShawnBoyMoody 01-13-2012 09:58 AM

FTW? You mean for better smoke shows?

I dont see you getting much better gas mileage unless your cruising of 90mph. I know my GTO had 3.90's and it was only at 1500rpm at around 85mph with a t56. If your just driving around town gears aren't going to help your mpg.

slowgreen99 01-13-2012 04:45 PM

dont t56s run around 1900 rpms in 6th with 3.73 gears?? Id say 4.10s and drive it.

3.55s are perfect for our cars. In 6th you can still cruise 85 under 2500 rpms. I wouldnt change it unless you are going higher gear for racing. 3.73s would be nice, 4.10 is overkill for us.

tell Jeff that :D

depending on how your trans is geared, 1st gear with a 3.08 may be a bitch around town, i know a fbody with a t56 and even a 3.23 is a pain in the ass around town, and 6th gear is pretty much useless unless you're doing over 70

ShawnBoyMoody 01-13-2012 06:24 PM

Mod motors love some gear. I would think the 32 valve motors would too.

ShawnBoyMoody 01-13-2012 06:27 PM

Of course when you have 650 HP like Ryan, gearing becomes less important.

Hes in the 600s too. I daily drive mine also and like the 3.55s. Like i said 3.73s would probably be ok to DD also... 4.10s would be fun but not to DD on. I actually was going to go with 3.73s when i built my rear, but was too lazy. 4.10s would be a burnout fest for your car.

This. Might be able to pick up something for not much more than than the price of a gear swap. Then you can beat on your Cobra harder!
