NB, but long damn night..10.34@130.9

Before I go into the night I'll start with saying you never know when you have good people around you till you need help. Then those "friends" can be hard to find and I was blessed last night. I want to give a big thanks to some local guys for helping me out, mainly Marcus and Brandon. I'm not even really close to these guys and they just helped another racer out, so thanks guys.

On to the evening, made a few good passes last night at Darlington. Street tune/19psi boost went 6.75/104 and 10.52@129 which was a old best on nitrous and 72mm. Had a weak 60" that pass and found a traction bar that had be knocked loose, likely from the boat last week. Got it fixed and turned the bottle to come at 5k-6300. Truck dead hooked and felt strong. Went 1.52 / 6.62@105 and 10.34@130.9.

At this point i'm feeling pretty damn good. They make last call to lanes and I decided rush in one more pass. I knew there was more in the 60" and 10.2's to follow. I went with 100 more RPMS's on two-step and selected the bottle to come on at 4600 instead of 5000.

Only problem with my plan was I selected 1K RPM knob, not the 100 RPM knob. I left at 4300/20psi, bottle hit at 4600 and a rear U-joint F' you, i'm done. I knew something was wrong as I watched the last yellow light up and I let the button go....

Got it home though and for a lot less out of my pocket then I planned for went I accepted this day would come. Lesson is, if you rush you'll make a mistake. Shame I broke the truck, but I'll be back. :bigthumb:

Few pictures, go-pro died first past and woman was working so no vid's.

Congrats on the new best!

Time for a carbon fiber shaft. :)

Am I seeing that right, your shifting at 7,000 rpm?

Foose04 04-21-2012 10:25 PM

Carbon fiber? :barf: Not enough money coming into this guys bank for those parts.

I have fuel cut at 7k. I aim for 6500 on shifts.

Carlrx7 04-21-2012 10:51 PM

Nice time, sorry about the truck. been there, done that.

2001hawk 04-22-2012 02:18 AM

Sux, but it is always cool when a fellow racer saves your bacon.

98Camarod 04-22-2012 06:24 AM

20psi on the 2step, holy shit! Sucks to hear about the ujoint, but atleast there was someone there to help. Marcus and Brandon saved the day, that shows character to me. Do you have a drive shaft safety loop installed?

You know if your woman was there you would have never heard the end of it, "you had to turn it up, didn't you?!" My wife would pretend to be concerned but would be pissed.

ForceFed4g63 04-22-2012 09:27 AM

Always nice to hear about fellow racers helping out. I know they like to talk a lot but I would be glad to help Brandon and Marcus if they needed it and I know they would do the same for anybody else on here. Well maybe except for Matt :D

That made for a long ass night! But that truck is flying, so damn it, its supossed to break eventually!

H! Brandon towed me home on Roberts trailer a while back. Marcus also helped me with a transmission leak.

Yeah I welded in a loop after the factory DS let go at 100+MPH. You see some old marks from it under the truck still. This time it got into the tank some, but then dropped straight down. Only thing that would be better is have a tighter loop or another one to keep it off the ground. Or just keep a DS in it to start with. :bigthumb:

As for the woman, her butt would have been sleeping. She was supportive on the phone though, told her what all happen and she ended it with, well you got a new best didn't you? lol, but i'm glad she wasn't there.

Need some opinions here..

Clean it up, new u-joint, rebalance.
Or
Cut it off, new end cap, u-joint, rebalance.

Is that a competition engineering safety loop? The DS didn't do that much damage, could have been worse.

spdracr0 04-22-2012 03:10 PM

I think with the weight you are moving, it at least needs a new end, u-joint and rebalance, it beat some of that pretty thin......or I am with Heltra on the CF...weight reduction

Foose04 04-22-2012 03:15 PM

Loop is from Summit Racing. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G7900

I would have the yoke replaced. Looks like the the loop held up decent. Mine is made into the front of the torque arm (f-body). It can be a real PITA to slide the DS out sometimes.

2001hawk 04-22-2012 03:49 PM

Also kinda off the subject what kind of floor coating is that? How does it hold up? I am going to need to paint the floor of my shop and garage soon and I am looking for ideas.

Qwik_Sn95 04-22-2012 04:49 PM

what about upgraded joints so this doesnt keep happening?

Foose04 04-22-2012 05:04 PM

Yeah, well I have two thoughts. I'm not trying to leave at 4300+ RPMS where this broke, I leave at 3300-3400 and that should go into the high 1.4s low 1.5s and I hope keep the rearend in it. If I had a retarded rear-end/axles/driveshaft then I would say sign me up.

I have been looking for something stronger today, but it's slim picking. What I snapped was a Neapco.

This is the best I've found that it the correct size/style. I'm still looking though.

I go with option 2, slightly modified. Cut it off, new bigger and stronger end cap, stronger u-joint, rebalance. Or just get a whole new shaft made. It's not cheap, but better than breaking shit.....

That truck is riding. Got any pics of the motor/ engine bay? I'm new here so if you've posted them before I wouldn't know.....

wade w 04-22-2012 06:04 PM

It looks like were the end smacked the pavment it got bent out of round. If so. The end needs to be replaced. You need to get u-joints without grease fittings. Look at the lakewood's in summit. I could tell you were to get them cheaper down here, but I don't know were to get them up there.
