Anybody have a Tech 2?

If so, where is a good place to pick one up at? Is there a better alternative for diagnostics and trouble shooting? Do you have to buy software for the Tech 2 ?

For use on a an 07 Corvette

It depends on what your wanting to do. I have access to a tech 2 and use it a couple times a year. 99% of the time I can scan or reset it with EFI Live and dont need the tech 2. I use it mainly for really minor things like adjusting new trucks for led's, changing radio setups, etc.
When shopping for a tech 2 be careful there are some chinese knock off's out there. Everyone I know with tech 2 bought them from tool auctions from closed dealerships. GM is phasing out tech 2's but they are good for up 2010's with the latest update.

Thanks for the advice, I want to be to look at the cars computer parts and determine if something is wrong and be able to fix it.
Its just a base model Corvette and the only car I have ever wanted to keep completely stock (don't ask why). I think that if I will keep this car, then I want to have the ability to do maintenance on it.

Will the replacement for Tech 2's talk to 2010 and older vehicles?

Yes, the replacement is a WiFi laptop. I dont know anyone with one yet outside the dealerships. Im sure its done just like the tech 2 was where you have to have a subscription for updates which was about $1200 a year. I dont know if the laptop will do older or not, every time I have been at the dealer they were using tech 2 on older cars still. Could be they just know how to use them better though.
If thats all your wanting to do I would recommend buying just the scan tool from efi live. Its alot cheaper and can scan things a tech 2 cant. Its also a hell of a lot cheaper.

if you get the tech 2 and need the "training" on it let me know, I still have access to the online training that the dealership gave me when I worked there. they can also order you one through the parts dept at any Chevy dealership. They are VERY good for diagnosis when you know how to use them.
