rebuild recommendation

The Javelin has a borg warner model 12 automatic transmission. Fords FMX is supposed to be very similar. Anyways i would try to rebuild it but my free time is few and far between so i am looking for suggestions to get it rebuilt. I have been recommended to Jim wise at Champion transmission in monks corner, and pt's transmission in monks corner or the one on rivers. Havent herd back from pts on rivers and jim quoted ~$475+parts for a bench job and ~700+parts if he pulls and installs. Is that a fair price are these reputatable shops?

Thanks in advanced,
Scott

Robert Griffin (at PT's on rivers) is on here, i'm sure he'll chime in, thats who i would recommend.

i know Jim pretty well and i'd trust him aswell, but first choice would be Robert.

Those oldies are getting tough. I know for a fact I wont be able to tackle something like that.

I work closely with Pete at PT's on rivers (hes not at the monks corner store). He can do it but he WILL take his time with it. Pete will take everything apart and buff and polish everything, he spends countless hours cleaning. If you take it to pete, It would go through me, but Id have pete work the price up because im just not familiar with something that old.

I know Jim pretty well, hes a good guy, but I know for a fact he wont spend the same time Pete will on the rebuild, so Jim will probably get it done faster.

Gerald may chime in, dont know if he would work on something like that, check with him though. I know Gerald does good work too and has alot of ATD.

Wow...that's an old piece of iron you got there! The Borg Warner model 12 is very similar to the Ford FMX. Soft parts and bushings still seem to be available, though.

Supposedly, back in the day, the original designer of the Borg Warner models 8 through 12 automatics defected to work for Ford. A short time after the defection, Ford popped out with the FMX. What sucks is that there are subtle differences among the hard parts between the two transmissions to where mixing and matching is a pain in the ass. Some things are the same, some are model specific. They are strong transmissions, though.
