I didn't watch the whole thing...but enough to get pretty pissed.

white99ta 04-18-2013 12:17 AM

Seemed like way to much bullshit for a guy that wasn't breaking any laws. If it wasn't for the badge he would've been shot. If it was the other way around it would've been grounds for deadly force.

Wow. Holy shit that guy managed to keep his cool way better than I ever would have in that situation. I hope the first officer that tried to take his gun from him is fired. All of them need to be......the officers do not know the law, blatantly broke the law, and came up with a bullshit charge to arrest and honest military man on a hike with his son. Shame on that department. Such utter horseshit.

minytrker 04-18-2013 01:49 AM

I think both were wrong but with the video he will against the police. I get pulled over all the time and always have loaded firearms on me and in my vehicle. I have never had a cop even get nervous, they don't seem to even care I am armed legally. I'm sure my attitude compared to his helps my case with not having problems. I'm all for freedom of speech, second amendment, etc but sometimes you have to choose your battles IMO.

Probably all dumbasses, but the guy was a nutbag with a shitty attitude and got treated accordingly.
What laws do the police not know, and what laws did they break? I saw people on YB making that same comment, but nobody ever said what laws the cops broke?

oldskoolstang 04-18-2013 10:29 AM

Police officers cannot disarm a law abiding citizen for no reason. Especially one with a permit and carrying a concealed weapon legally and his rifle legally since Texas is an open carry state.

oldskoolstang 04-18-2013 10:35 AM

Also, the 3 cops had to confer with each other to make up a charge against the man so they could arrest him. In the very first part of the video the officer is telling him that as soon as he confirms that he can legally possess the gun then he can go.........once the other cops show up, they make up a charge, then arrest him. I don't know what else went on or if anything had happened with this guy prior to this incident....but from what I've seen the cops are in the wrong.

Really? How would you act if you were on a hike with your kid, doing nothing wrong, then having a cop grab you and try to snatch your gun from you then place you in handcuffs and arrest you.........all in front of your son. I give the man props for keeping his cool as well as he did.

^^^^ EXACTLY!!!

I don't know a single law biding citizen who knows the law who wouldn't be pissed off! I don't care what your profession is, nobody likes to be told by a commoner that they know more about the rules of your job than you do. I think that is what pissed the cops off in this instance.

From what I've read, apparently this is NOT the first time this department has done this and been in this position.

WWhittle 04-18-2013 12:10 PM

I said in my first post that they were all dumbasses, but just for fun I will reply again....

It wasn't for "no reason". They were responding to a dispatched call and were there to investigate. It's not abnormal for a police officer to disarm someone while they investigate the call. If they are legally in possession of the firearm, they will get it back when they're done. Simple concept.

I feel sure that if the guy had a different attitude the situation would've most likely been handled differently. But he was obviously agitated, a little confrontational, was a smartass, and seemed to have a bone to pick. Because of all that, I don't think it was unreasonable for the officer to want to disarm him until he cleared the call.

It's no different here in South Carolina. If you are legally carrying a concealed weapon, and have dealings with a police officer, you should fully expect them to take your gun and secure it until they are done with you.

The Supreme Court has also given a police officer the right to Terry frisk you, with or without your consent, just to see if you have any weapons on you.

When you summarize it, it sounds a lot worse than it really was. Not to mention, you don't know what happened before the camera came on. I can tell you this ÔÇô I would never act that way to any sort of authority in front of my child. That's the problem with half these thugs these days. They see their mama and daddy disrespecting anybody of authority and a grow up thinking it's okay. It's never going to end, but I'm not to contribute to it.

Exactly what law is that again?

Its still funny.

WWhittle 04-18-2013 01:13 PM

With all that said, I can't figure out exactly what they charged him with, or why. It was hard to hear that part. I'm not too sure what they could have arrested him for unless there was something we could not see on camera.

This story reminds me of Chad Walton's story. At first, you think that the cops are 100% in the wrong. Then you learn a little more about the "victims" history and you realize that maybe they got exactly what they were looking for. Like Chad, this guy also has a history of embracing conflict.

Truth is most people don't know their rights or laws, that's why we have these things called lawyers, cops are allowed to do whatever they want to ensure their safety and the safety of people around them hell thy can put you in cuffs if they want to. Llewelyn my point is everybody always runs around saying I know my rights I know this and I know that but the truth is they don't know jack shit. If a cop is wrong them they are wrong but if you wanna go around saying you know everything you better damn well be right or you will just look like an idiot

LXtasy 04-18-2013 02:48 PM

As much as I hate to take sides. I will agree with the police. There was a situation reported. They responded. Guy seemed mouthy and hostile. Cops detained him. Now, if it is true that they still have his concealed carry permit and firearms he needs to get a lawyer and handle it that way. Cops of course got mouthy as well. But human nature to respond. If you get loud, I get louder type situation.
