how to fix your c5/c6 corvette
been messing around with a c5 z06 trying to fix some random trouble codes/check engine light/traction control lights. after snooping around the net for awhile ive begun to realize how easy it is to fix one of these cars. i think you can do it in about 4 steps:
1. jot down ALL the car's diagnostic codes and post them in a corvette forum 2. clean all the grounds. twice. 3. check the female plugs, and check for burned wires by the headers 4. take it to the dealership so they can use their scan tool, and fix it. after that your corvette will be fixed. lol. |
step one - What did you just do to the car?
step two - Put it back to the way it was. step three - it's fixed! |
Step 1: Check to see if base model
Step 2: If base model then sell it and get a non-base model. Step 3: Get beat by base models Step 4: But sneer at them without waving when they wave at you |

Base models are called base models because they don't have anything to break! :hide:

so did you fix the abs module?
|
not yet, i can't find any real info anywhere other than "clean the grounds". a wiring schematic would be nice. basically im just going to clean grounds and connections thus far. its funny how someone on the vette forums asks a question about their car's problem, and 3-4 guys will reply telling the guy to post up all his codes so they can give him a better diagnosis. he posts up 5-6 codes, and they tell him it could be bad grounds, and/or a really expensive problem and to take it to the dealership. its pretty much the same response each time. almost comical.
vette guys. lol |
I know a good bit about the EBCM module thing actually. It's a common problem. You can either try to resolder the grounds within the unit itself and possibly replace some relays, or you can send it in to absfixer to have him do it, complete with warranty. I can provide schematics, links, and more info if you want. There's a "How-to" on the forum if you wanna do it yourself. You can take off the module though an still drive the car, albeit without all the nannies. When I first bough my Z the unit was bad and I had to drive it from the mountains of NC, around midnight, in a heavy downpour/thunderstorm, on bald winter tires, with no active handling/ABS/traction control, lol.

i am getting "tcs no comm." along with 2 other codes which other guys have gotten along with the no comm message. car drives fine, but the abs light is on, along with the traction light, and check engine light.
3 codes in the pcm, and i can't remember the numbers right now, but they are: 1. lean bank 1 2. lean bank 2 3. torque signal something something (i am assuming since no comm from tcs) low oil light is on, and im fairly certain the wires are roasted going down to the sender unit in the oil pan. car has headers on it, and has been "messed with" alot over the years. different engines and such. |
