New Duramax coming to town!
Well after a very long search for a lifted rig, decided on a my new daily. Nothing super special, but i'm pretty excited. It's a 2005 GMC 2500HD with the LLY/5 speed Allison, all stock setup with a lift and 37x13.5 toyo open countrys.
First things first. De-badge, electric steps, tent rear lights. Also open to some good pointers to go with on performance? Keeping focus on better fuel mileage and towing, not speed. Fly to Texas Saturday morning to pick it up. It's currently at Premier Diesel in Mansfield,Tx. I requested the dealership take it to them for a full private party inspection. Hope it all checks out! :cheers http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps945429fa.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...psea994035.jpg |
SEXY!
Not that it really matters, but how many miles on it? Any other mods other than suspension/wheels/etc? |
Thanks man! Truck had 3 owners, last owner had 4 years and was a dealer trade. Truck has 162k on her feet. No other mods then a in-dash that was noted. It looks to be a fabtech 8", but ill see more when I get there. I was told the steering is tight and responsive, drives dead straight. Again well see, I expect/accept some big rig behavior on my 17 hour drive home.

Any guesses on fuel mileage? I'd love to see 18+ highway, but may need a tune for that?

holy shit its not sliverbirch!!
my truck got 22-23 hwy when it was on 37's, stock id expect 15-18, but a diesel truck from texas id put money on it has a tune in it |
Rob, come by the shop when you get it and let's talk mods. You can knock down 18+ regularly with an lly. I can show you what is done with mine and what can be done to improve.
CPS is also moving towards some diesel work here soon and we'd love to help you out. I'm already in the process of lining up some diesel performance vendors. |

Sweet ass truck Rob. Im sure youll love it.

I'll be in Dallas on Saturday hitting up the Gas Monkey Garage and Restaurant. Let me know if you need anything or if you want me to check it out before you hop on the plane.
|
Damnit I only got 6mpg with 8 inches of lift on 38s.
DAGGUM GAS TRUCKS, AND 351'S!!!!!! |
IMO, lose the 17 inch H2 rims. all that sidewall looks so "1970's"
how does the front end on these holdup? you can be in for a major rebuild on heavy duty trucks, especailly with lifts. remember: there is always a reason someone traded it in... flying to TX sounds like an adventure.... |
Nice! What did you end up on the price? I messed up 3 years ago and didn't get an 05 LTZ 2500 with dick cepeck rims's and 8" lift, 164k on the clock for 13k. It needed tires, but I was retarded and didn't get it. It was white too.
|
i've seen some guys going through hubs with the big tires. power steering pumps can be an issue with them as well.

Nice truck. I kind of like the wheels... if you get anything else i'd go with 20" BMF's.. cheap, light and look awesome.
where is the tail pipe on that thing? |

Awesome looking truck Rob! |
VERY nice looking truck! I'd be surprised if you got better than 17-18 mpg w/o a tune...especially w/ those big tires.
My '04 LB7 got 17 mpg unloaded w/ 315-75 tires and a tune. Other than the usual ball joints and tie rod ends, the heavy diesel frontends wear out the steering boxes after some miles. My Duramax still had some slop in the front after a rebuild...was all in the gear box. I'm surprised you went w/ an '05. Good trucks, just most people are after the '06-'07 for the 6 speed allison and LBZ. |

agree, I would run those rims rather than the all black rims with the little dunce hat for a center cover. those are played OUT now. |
