Holt transmission on Rivers
in North Charleston, SC
Can suck my ass. :Finger2: :finger::fight::rocket: they zip tied the driveshaft to the u-joint on the rear end of the 86 camaro when they "installed" the trans. on top of that, they didnt even put any fluid into the converter or trans after the install.... probably because they didnt install the fluid lines or the trans cooler.... on top of that, (according to Marcus) they charged 600 bucks for this install, didnt give a reciept of the services, and said they had to get "extra parts" from LKQ (local junk yard across the road). come to find out, they didnt install the shifter linkage bracket. and they never bolted the trans mount to the cross member. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3318/...63551528_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3303/...09db4156_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3543/...6e3e36a1_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3297/...cd8f4f9a_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3651/...b8778ba0_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3361/...de6bb5d9_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3385/...cdc90145_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3589/...0562f1a5_b.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xA9fHoeVAG0 back story: Josh was out of the state for a few weeks and our so called "friend" (Marcus) offered to tow the car to get the trans installed. I and Josh told Marcus to just take the car to the shop that built the trans as plans were to have them install it from the beginning. A few days later the car is parked back on base with mine and the trans is installed. I should have checked the rest out after we saw that they didnt install the fluid lines. the trans is working great, tho I/we do plan on bringing the car into you to adjust the TV cable. the good thing is that Josh was only rolling about 3mph when the driveshaft let go. I pulled the car out originally, and was circling the parking lot and gave it a little gas and it started clanking, Josh went to pull it into a spot to check things out and it let go as he was parking it. (side note.... Marcus told me back when he had his manual 240SX that he wanted to put a 3500 stall converter in it. retard.) if this needs to be moved to the Trash talk section, thats fine. Just wanted everyone to stay the hell away from Holt. |

I had to make a complaint one time. The owner of the business actually wrote a letter of apology and gave me a 200% refund. South Carolina is very good about consumer complaints. If your military, maybe a complaint to some folks on base is in order? Possible black listing by the base could take place?? Was there a communication issue between the business and the customer? That's shady work that could have gotten someone hurt. The owner of the car should file a complaint ! Good luck.. |
I wish I would have done that a few years ago to a certain vendor!

In addition to Holt's Rivers Ave location, they even have a second one on Main Street in Summerville. Now that's what I call customer "service".
I have heard of all kinds of strange workmanship coming out of Holt's. I don't know if it is just one or two of their technicians that are the problem, but buyer beware! As for myself, I typically just work on performance built transmissions for you gearheads as bench jobs. My main specialty is building late model domestic overdrives to hold up to some serious street/strip horsepower. I also work on old fossils from Powergildes to C-6s. If someone asks me about stock rebuilds requiring R&R, or any import transmission work requiring R&R, I always refer them to Carl's Trasmissions on Spruill Ave. I have known Carl's son, Eddie, for years and we have come to know of each other's diagnostic and workmanship habits very well, and I can tell you they are top notch. We are always calling each other up and discussing any out of the ordinary strange transmission problems such as, "Have you ever seen one of these do this?". Usually between the years of experience each one of us has, we come up with a proper course of action. Carl's may not be the cheapest in town, but you won't be left on the side of the road 3 hours out of town with a broke transmission in your daily driver, either. |
If I may add, Eddie is just a fun guy to deal with. He gets parts from Jones, and we reflash PCMs for him from time to time.

Josh and I are working the issue. thanks for that link tho, it will def get used. Ive gone thru similar issues when I went to Iraq. While I was gone, my apartment complex towed my 98 camaro (because it hadn't moved in a certain amount of time). when I got back to the states, I did some running around and found that Blue and Gold had towed it. Blue and Gold wanted $2300.00 for it with no wheels (sitting on the brakes/body in the dirt), trans was pulled, custom stereo was ripped out, t-tops were gone, spoiler was gone, leather seats gone, contacted my lawyer and sued the piss out of both of them and ended up getting around $6,000.00 overall (estimated value of the vehicle at the time). then I and my friends spent the next 3 months getting shitfaced every night....lol Quote:
after talking with Rob, it turns out that Holt Transmission has been doing sub....very subpar work for a while now. |
