302 timing
on my 302 with a msd ign it is a little sluggish will it reachs about 4000 rpm. Any guesses to why? does the timing need adjustment? i think base is 14 and it advances to 28 of 30 by 3000rpms. and what is a good timing number to spray some NOS on it?
stock timing is 10 degrees with the spout out on the distributor. (fuel injected)
How much nitrous do you plan on spraying? My experience, with 125 shot I had 1 range colder plugs and was at 12 degrees timing. THAT WAS ME THOUGH on my 302 fox I had. What stall speed do you have in that car? is it loose or tight converter? DO you have too big of an intake on it? Maybe not enough carb? |
stall is suppose to be a 2800 but feels a little tight. Torqer 2 intake with a 750 holley.

Plugged my distributor off and it stays at 30 degrees all the time. I run a 125 shot with mixed fuel from haji's sand mart. 950 carb, performer airgap intake, and stock autolite 63 plugs.

plugging it off means? do i need to buy something to do that of just rig something up
what cam is in it?
do you mean plugging off the vacuum advance?
I am sure that is what he means. Plugging off the vac advance.
its a msd dist with no vac advance

well its sluggish on motor. With gas it wakes up. I was just trying to get it to come out the hole a little better on motor
What rear gears are you running?
Mines an 85 GT vacuum dist, and I mean plug off the vacuum port that way it won't advance. On the MSD dist, take the weights and springs out of the inside, or the newer ones have a pin you can lock the springs and weights to stop the advance. I can almost bet the problem is the converter you have says 2800rpm, but you can probably only stall it to about 1800 to 2000 before you push the tires. It probably works good on the gas because NOS likes a tight converter, and the converter will stall higher with the gas due to increased HP and torque. Mine is way too loose, I can stall it to about 2800 to 3000 before tire push, which is good for 60 foot, but sucks in high gear when the motor is making noise, but not going anywhere or blowing through the converter.
