Why does my shifter sit so high?

Trying to figure out whats going on here. Stock mount, stock cross member. Ebay shifter. Is the shifter just so tall the boot wont go on?

I would look at the transmission mount and crossmember arrangement to see if something there has the rear of your transmission sitting too high. Compare the height of your mount up against another fox body mount. Worth a shot.

ALL the engine and trans mounts are new. I think the aluminum collar is causing all the problem so I am going to trim it down a little bit on one side tomorrow. I think I only need about 1/8th inch clearance and the boot will go down over the shifter then.
