WTT 2000 Z28 - needs trans work, will trade DOWN

Looking to trade my 00' Z28 and I'm willing to trade down. The car is really in pretty good shape. The body is fairly straight, but it's got its fair share of rock chips and the paint is fading a bit on the driver side body moldings. It turns heads and gets compliments everywhere it goes. The car really cleans up amazingly well. The interior is damn near flawless, literally not much wrong with it at all.

Only real issue with the car is the tune is spotty at best and the trans. I'm removing the cam and having the ECU flashed by TunedbyFrost or PCM4Less for a bolt-on tune, but the valvesprings will remain on the car. Basically choose your cam and pushrods, no need for worrying about pinching an O-ring on the oil pump, I already installed an LS6 pump, and it already has the stronger LS2 timing chain installed. No need to mess with valvesprings either which can be a real pain. By reflashing the PCM it'll drive like it should, no surging or bucking. The other issue is the trans. For whatever reason it wont shift at WOT all the time. It's really an occasional thing. Why, I have no idea, but I'm tired of dealing with it. The trans has some nice parts, the typical stuff used in the Performabuilt builds, so repair cost should be minimal in regards to your typical tranny costs. The car does drive just fine though, and operates normally under normal driving conditions.

What I'm looking to trade for:
-Mustangs
-Trucks
-Even an import.

Big thing I need is something to drive that's reasonably reliable. I know the value of a clean F-body like this, and considering the trans will need to be reworked I'm willing to trade down. Post up what you have, the worste I can say is no. It doesn't have to be performance oriented.

Now... the car :)

I'll listen to any reasonable offer but right now I'm going to start at $6500 and see where that gets me...

Matts94Z28 10-13-2010 05:24 PM

Ahh, just curious. Good luck with the sale. It sure is a clean car.

I'll think about it. Gotta see what the offers look like by the end of the week.

Nope. Not trying to start a bidding war, just in a tough spot right now and I'm sacrificing as it is. Guess I'm just trying to lose as little of my ass as possible.

Wasn't talking to you. $5500 is a reasonable offer considering the "cons" . GL with the sale. $6500 seems fair but with the tune issue and transmission issue, many would consider it a "project car"

jmd 10-15-2010 05:18 AM

last time he put the car up for sale it had trans issues . i guess he never fixed it. the origional old sale thread on fastgm states this. it is a nice looking car . gl with the sale.

Did you join this site for any other reason than to sell cars? Every thread you started outside of your intro is to sell a vehicle. Mustang, Blazer 4dr and now this. All within a year. Just curious?

ah, i post crap for sale on other area forums (fastGM) but i don't ever post on there. most of the folks on there, are on here anyways.

Shon Herron's a good example, he's got that CTS-V pimped all over. it's a tough economy..

yeah, i remember the tranny problem, and IIRC, we all told him to take it to Robert, i think Robert even surmised what the problem could be.

really, the tranny fix is prolly a $200 fix for Robert.

and then a tune, which is "just the cost of going fast"

ElecTech 10-15-2010 10:27 AM

He has said he was taking the cam out to sell it. Then, getting a "mail order bolt-on" tune put in. I'm sure if someone were serious and wanted it left in, he would. The tune part would be an easy fix.

Initially no, but since you're so curious about my motives... I joined this site to try and meet some Auto Enthusiasts in the region I live in, which is Beaufort. Come to find out I'm about the only one on here in the immediate area. Also due to my work schedule making it out to any sort of meet is really a luxury and not really something I can bank on. On top of that, this car has been nickel and diming me to death since March. Finally, since I was a member of this forum, I elected to go ahead and use it as a venue to get the word out. Sorry if it offends you to find someone using the classifieds for their intended purpose.

Bingo.

Cam is still in it. I was planning to remove it in order to make it more street friendly for a potential buyer, but at the buyers request I'll leave it in. Less wrenches for me to turn.

exactly, the Nova was fairly cheap, but we never had time to go RACE it, and since it was not really DD anymore, we just sold it.

FWIW, leave the Cam in it.
any car, is just a car. unless it makes BIG numbers (which it could with the cam & tune)
i can think of no one who would rather have the smaller cam.
most folks on here will buy the car, carry it to Robert, then to a dyno shop.

FWIW, if you have a handheld programmer, i would set it back to STOCK and check the WOT shifts.
a shop in columbia does mustangs, and they SHIFT LIKE CRAP.
another local shop did a Predator in a buddys Charger last week, and it will not shift WOT

so, not all "tuners" are knowledgeable of the best tranny parameters.

i sent my wife a link to this page.....:hide:

bwelch 10-15-2010 03:11 PM

I would leave the cam in it and get somebody to do a street tune on it. The trans problem could just be in the tune. $300 could fix both your issues and I think you will want to keep it once its tuned right. If you still want to sell it after that then you could get alot more money for the car if its running good. I wish I had the extra cash right to buy it.

Matts94Z28 10-15-2010 03:25 PM

I was asking 10.5k for my 01, but I ended up selling it for 9k with a bad slave cylinder and untuned. If you fix it, you could make a lot more. If I had the money, I would buy it and turn it.
