So, you think your Monday was bad?

I am sitting here after lunch chatting on the phone with a
potential client when I hear a sonic boom and one of my paralegals
yells "call 911"!!!

We ran out the front door and there was a car that had wrecked into
our 10x8 brick sign after it took out a power pole. The throttle was stuck wide
open and there were power lines laying on the car. Initially we
thought the driver had gotten out because we couldn't see anyone in
the car, then we realized she was still in it and unconscious.

Fortunately there was a police officer and an EMT on the scene
immediately. The pine straw caught fire underneath the car and I ran
inside to get a fire extinguisher.

She came to and the officer forced open the driver's door and pulled
her out of the car while I was spraying the extinguisher, although I
don't think he realized there was a live wire in the vicinity.

While were trying to determine if someone ran her off the road she
told the EMT that she was trying to kill herself and she'd unsnapped
her seatbelt on purpose. Evidently she is a crack addict.

The fire dept showed up and basically let the car burn for a while
before extinguishing it. (still curious about that) It was an
inferno before they finally put it out.

Then we had all the witnesses getting their statements taken in our
lobby while they hauled the car off.

Zany, just zany. Pictures to come if I can figure out how to post them.

LXtasy 10-15-2007 07:58 PM

where was this at?

snakeplissken 10-15-2007 08:20 PM

Summerville - Old Trolley Road near Miles Jamison.

It's sad that someone can get that bad off. At least no one got hurt in such a potentially dangerous situation.

LXtasy 10-16-2007 05:57 PM

chiropractor office? If so I saw the demolished sign. That is 2 minutes from my shop/office.

snakeplissken 10-17-2007 08:00 AM

The sign was ours - John Price Law Firm. A 10x8 interior lit w/ brick columns. About 8-9K.

The driver sustained a broken leg and internal injuries. She is lucky because she hit that thing at 45mph. She bounced off a scrub oak but there were no skid marks anywhere.

The ironic thing is that I had all the brush in front of the sign cut down about 3 weeks ago. Otherwise I don't think the sign would have been prominent enough to catch her attention.

Channel 2 came out and did a story on it - interviewing the cop in our parking lot. My paralegals were pissed because he took his time putting on his reflective safety vest BEFORE pulling her out of the car. Keep in mind the straw under the car was on fire and I ran back into the office to get fire extinguishers. I was putting the fire out underneath the car while he and the EMT were tending to her.

Mike, how do I upload pictures here? Send them to photobucket or imageshack??

Yea yea I dont know how to do that.

LXtasy 10-17-2007 07:38 PM

Typical summerville cops. LOL

I did see the nice well burnt ground. Was there any cars in the parking lot right behind the sign?

snakeplissken 10-18-2007 09:04 AM

Thankfully the guys next door were still closed for lunch and the parking lot was fairly empty.

Apparently she was charged with DUI too. We are still trying to determine if she had coverage but she is probably uninsured. That will lead to further misery for her since she will lose her license for both the DUI and No Insurance. She won't be able to get her dl back until she pays back our insurance carrier either.

Let this be a lesson kids - Stay Away from Crack.
