Couple Quick E-85 Questions

Is anybody here using E-85? Wes I know you are. I'm thinking of setting up an E-85 tune for the track on the car and want to see if anybody is having bad luck here locally.

Anybody had any issues as far as gumming up injectors or valvetrain? Supposedly some of the stations that carry it haven't properly cleaned the tank they used when they switched to Ethanol, causing old fuel or diesel residue to clog up fuel pump filters and other things. Anybody ever had this issue in the area? Any particular station that has good E-85?

been running mine since february...obviously its only been a few months but everything looked fine. the only thing i have noticed is a little more condensation in the valve covers...just keep an eye on your oil. the only station i know of is on ladson rd beside showzone.

It would be wise to possibly invest in a personal tester as well. Many stations have variations in their E85..also depending on time of year it may be only equal to E-74. I know in phoenix it was very consistent but yet to determine that here.

Ethanol checkers are extremely inexpensive insurance for your motor.

Just something to think about.

My car started idling poorly and it went right back to being happy with 93 in the tank. I have not pulled my injectors yet to check for gunk but I am expecting to see a bit. I don't think it will be a problem if you at least run a tank of 93 at least every third tank of gas.

My car has a meter in it that tells the ethanol percentage and so far Ladson has always been 85 percent.

Thanks guys, I guess I mainly wanted to see if anyone had issues with the Ladson station. If I switch I'll only run E-85 at the track or for some occasional fun on the weekends, so if anything I would say no more than one tank a month. I think that will be fine but figured I'd ask.

Are you guys switching from a 93 gas tune to an e85 tune or are your cars "flexfuel"?

I tested the mix at yemassee all year round and it was E85 every month, even through this winter. So I'm not sure about up there.

Also you probably saw my problem with a "dead" injector. Well it gummed up the inside of the injector not the outside.

The E-85 will remove any buildup and deposites from your tank, lines, valves, etc. That is the good and the bad. If you are fortunate it will all go into the filter, but as stated, it could get caught in the injector screens. Just something to keep in mind. I would recommend a filter change after the first couple of tanks, especially if your car is a high mileage car that may have years of fuel deposits.

I switch tunes. I spent a lot of time dialing the tunes in on a dyno but the short version is that with e85 I give it 20% more fuel, 5deg more timing, and 12lbs more boost. And make an extra 150 AWHP.

I run e85 and gas up at the Ladson station. Ps don't use jbweld to fix a broken intank fitting.

We actually have 3 local, I've called the other two and confirmed. Any iPhone people, I used "Flex Fuel" app. It works ok, but crashes sometimes in map mode.

I can see downtown from my house. If you live more than two miles from the ocean, you live in the sticks.

I won't speak for him but I will say what I know. A dude who goes to showzone has the black wrx (you dorchester normals will know who I am referring to) he uses E85, iirc what he said he would do is put in a full tank of 93 at least once a month.....

And yellow audi s4 dude I think all the time runs E85 with out anything added afaik.

edit: my friend has an srt4 neon he ran E85 all the time with nothing added. He was an instructor out at the nuke school, left for Cali a while back......but his car ran flawless aside from traction....
