Lot of the same stuff I do has already been said in here. Another thing that helps is eating fiber. Fruits, nuts, and veggies.
If you want to know what to eat and not eat Men's Health editor did the "Eat This Not That" series of books. I have quite a few of them. It gives you good examples of what to replace some of your bad eating habits with, what to order at restaurants, and what to cook at home. I learned a lot of my dieting from these. It doesnt just say hey eat this, but it tells you why its good or bad for you.
