I was under the understanding that the over head cam Ford motors like that were interference motors. So if they turned it over and the timing wasn't fairly close, there are probably some bent valves. Not familiar with the 4.0, but the 4.6 32 and 16 valve motors, you will bend valves if they are not correct. You might want to send Gerald a PM, he timed the 32 valve motor when Jeff rebuilt it for the mach 1...
