You can mist the wires down to see if there is a leak in the insulation that lets the voltage jump through to ground. Usually, if the spark voltage does happen to find ground before getting to the plug, you might not see the tach needle jump.

Use an ohmmeter to check resistance through your wires. A decent resistor plug wire typically has 5 to 6 thousand ohms of resistance per foot.
