After reviewing your synergy wiring diagram, the two-step wants to see the ground input just like you show it in diagram number 1 in your first post. Wire it just the way you showed it in that picture and it should work just fine. Just make sure you use a momentary switch as well for the transbrake relay. If this gets too confusing, then get a double pole double throw relay that has isolated contacts and use one momentary to drive the relay, then the relay will drive both the brake and the two-step.
