Most of the handguns that can shoot shotgun shells as well as normal pistol caliber bullets are legal to shoot shotgun ammo out of because they have rifled barrels. If they were smoothbore like a conventional shotgun barrel is, then they would fall under NFA rules that have to do with shotguns having barrel lengths less than 18 inches.
Hmnn......I wonder if it would be legal to have a rifled slug barrel for your shotgun less than 18 inches without all the NFA paperwork and associated tax stamp that goes with it?
