Reason why I ask is because on my truck I do not have either a h pipe or x pipe. I was thinking off adding a H pipe to the truck for some scavening effect.
Or I could just get a premade x pipe. Another option is companies like Magnaflow, dynomax etc offer a dual in dual out muffler with a built in xpipe. Of course, that would replace the flowcrappers I have on it now. Would it be worth doing a "midpipe" of sorts or just leave it alone? Remember I need all the power I can get to go 10's in the 1/8th

I stayed with the original H pipe configuration on the MM's for both the scavenging effect and balance of the exhaust ... the few soundbites I have heard with X pipes makes a raspy or ricer sound IMHO ... keep in mind too that at WOT, my FRP dual-modes dump the gate inside and blow straight through the muffler housing ...

Right now, I just have it straight "duals" No cats, just pipe and flowcrappers. I have thought about going to a y pipe. But unsure.

I have never "made" an x pipe. I made a few "H"'s and they worked ok.... In the past I have used the Summit universal X and made the piping between the headers - x - mufflers.

x's sound like shit with flowcrappers.
I can make the H. The fabbing is no problem. Main thing is would it be worth it? since nothing is there now.

Why? I have the technology and tools to fabricate my own. Just wondering if I should or not. If it would be worth the time or money to do so for any gains at all over what I have now.

I have built a whole exhaust with a x-pipe. I even made it were the x could be unbolted to make it easer to get the trans out. I do not like muffler shop exhaust because most of them cant do mandrel bends and if they can your going to pay way to mutch for it. I just bought u-bends and strait pipes from summit and butt welded it together. The x was not as hard as you might think. Just takes a little planning. Oh yea it looked damn good.

I have an "X" on the LTD with Magnaflows but mine is a custom 4" system, and I have no raspy sound. I think raspy is just a typical 4.6 sound. All you are doing is trying to balance the back pressure between 2 exhaust pipes, because it is really hard to make the 2 pipes equal length, under the vehicle. On other cars I have had X's and H's, and really didn't notice a sound difference, but that was push rod V8's and either 3 chamber flowcrappers or dynamax turbo mufflers..

Well, use your technology and build one and if you dont like it, use the same technology to unbuild it and put it back the way it was. |

when rc muffler was open they made an x-pipe for me. It was pretty simple for someone who knows what they were doing. my truck has no cats to an x-pipe to pypes race pro mufflers and it sounds great!
