Default Holy MPG!

Charleston,SC to Cape Coral, FL.

556 miles

9 hours

One restroom stop, no fuel

+5 over speed limit the whole way

48.4mpg

Impressive since it is only rated for 41 highway. Trunk was full as well. And still over a quarter tank left over.

That's some pretty impressive mileage. I just wish the EPA would let some of the VW/Audi high performance diesel technology make it into the states. Audi ran a diesel car in the 24 hours of LeMans series for quite a few seasons and consistently finished in the top 5. Audi has a diesel TT over in Europe that does 0-60 in a halfway decent 7.5 sec while getting 44mpg.

Too bad VW/Audi can't seem to build a gas engine for the long haul, though.

i have been averaging 48mpg each week driving to work for about a year now in my frankencivic burning 87 octane.
got 51mpg in the wifes civic hybrid when we took it to the mountains last year. (which still makes no sense to me, as it was out of battery halfway up the mountain and wheezing on its 1.3 liter engine)

paid $400 for frankencivic. un-stuck the clutch and it drove. lol

...but then i spent alot of money on the drivetrain and all that stuff trying to make it reliable as a daily driver for the next couple years. vtec-e engine out of a '95 civic vx, highway gear'd trans came out of a '90 crx hf, and i had to do a shit ton of wiring to get everything to work without throwing a check engine light. obd-0 to obd-1. swaps are common in the honda world, but not this one. it has wierd stuff like a 5 wire wideband o2 sensor, digital egr valve, as well as the other swap stuff like obd1 dizzy, vtec solenoid, vtec pressure switch, etc. there was alot of stuff.
wheels came off of a '99 civic hx. it looks like hell, but gets great mpg and has a huge cargo capacity.
