Sputtering issue

My car is kinda screwy. Sometimes it runs perfectly fine, other times you can hear it sputter, and the tach will jump up and down and it runs kinda rough. Sometimes this happens at idle and it will stall out... Does that make sense? I'm willing to take someone for a ride to show them... Or better yet I'll leave it outside the back gate and can someone come steal it and drive it off a cliff?

When's the last time you changed the fuel filter? Might be clogged. Or, if you have a TPS it may be going bad, that will cause a car to idle high then low

what is your tps voltage? when was the last time you cleaned the iac? the maf? Most likely your issue is the TPS and IAC. Your iac is probably clogged as all hell.

On my old fox I went with a iac spacer like this and it fixed a very very similar issue

It's carb'd. The fuel filter has only been installed for I'd say 1500 miles

If the tach is really jumpy, that usually means an open in a plug wire. The energy that would normally go to the plug to fire it has nowhere else to go but to dump energy back into the ignition coil. This pent up energy ends up making the tach needle jump up during a miss.

You can mist the wires down to see if there is a leak in the insulation that lets the voltage jump through to ground. Usually, if the spark voltage does happen to find ground before getting to the plug, you might not see the tach needle jump.

Use an ohmmeter to check resistance through your wires. A decent resistor plug wire typically has 5 to 6 thousand ohms of resistance per foot.

Checked the wires, they are practically brand new. No signs of wear or anything. My friend in his Mazda3 and thinks he's hot shit jumped on me, I jumped on the gas, once I let off and came to a stop, the car stalled out, it took some persuasion to get it to start again, but when it did, it ran very good and I haven't seen this problem since. I have no idea WTF is going on

check between the front headlights, there is a little blue circle with your issue inside. lol what is your fuel pressure? are you flooding the carb with too much fuel by chance?

I don't know my pressure, whats a good way to check? The car DOES run rich, but it has since I bought it

Plugs are all new. Distributor cap is new, wires are new, coil is newer... Beginning to think it's a fuel problem? This all started happening after I filled up at the Exxon on Ashley Phosphate...

You do not have a inline fuel pressure gauge? Or an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Was your car originally a fuel injected car?

I would pick those items up and go from there. Sucks that I just sold my Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

The car is an '85, came carbureted, I don't have a gauge or regulator. I'll try that 1st

Is your tach needle twitching up quickly when you feel the miss? If so, it is definitely something in the ignition.
