Default Blown 5.4 S-trim

Saaaay I was looking at a mustang that has a built 5.4 w/ a s-trim on 16lbs in it. What should I look for? I know nothing about these damn mod motors but the guy is offering me a straight up trade for my purple car... yeah I have alot of time, but not much money in my car as of now. If you guys know me, I am all about taking what I have an making something off of it. The Mustang is a 1998 and looks like it only needs paint, which isnt an issue. The car is said to have made 498/500+ throught a built 5-speed and an 8.8.

What should I look for to ensure this is something I even want to consider?

Matt, I looked at the add and it doesnt say anything about it being forged. Stock they have good cranks, but shitty rods and pistons. Im sure a L owner can chime in on their exact limits, but 500ish is probably pushing it.

if it's through a 5 speed (although I have no I dea why he would go through all the trouble of putting a 5 speed in when a t56 would have been better) It could have made 500 to the rear wheels on 16 lbs

Depending on what the 5.4 came out of it could have different compression ratio's , the Lightnings 5.4 had 8.5:1 and the N/A's were 9.0-9.5:1, they all had powdered metal rods good for throwing into the trash first chance you get, they all had forged pistons made by mahle they hold up pretty good unless you put a rod through them, most of them had forged kellogg cranks that were good to whatever power (over 1600hp) has been made to date (there were only a few that didn't have a forged crank)

500 is riding the line if the rods are stock, Lightning guys hit the wall at around 450 hp at the wheels through the auto that we have (around 550 at the crank), so with a manual , i'd say you could go a little further

its a 2001 L motor, and a TKO so the tranny is better than a t56 biatch!

Listen to Hal. He got boned by the "built motor swap" claim before. And, little Chris (08Racecraft's brother/Morey's son) can tell you some things about a TKO 500. They don't hold up to abuse very well.

The windshield might leak also because of the 3 dents where the hood flew open and smack it. Even if though they put a new windshield in it. the channel the windshield sets in could be out of shape some causing a leak. I used to do auto glass and I have seen it happen before.

And the add says nothing about the engine having anything forged so unless I saw a reciept for forged rods I wouldn't do it.

Anybody can get a receipt for forged rods. I got one right here, but I bought mine.

I would personally stick with the Camaro.

The question you got to ask your self is, Why would he want to traded a blown 5.4 mustang for your lt1 camaro? I would rather have the camaro so I wasn't talking shit about your camaro. But why would someone put that time and money in their car and want to trade it for a car with less power.
