I recently was in conversation with another track operator that expressed interest in doing a collaboration race. No specific type of race was discussed, but just the idea of getting tracks to work closer together. Obviously, this is a No Brainer idea!

After putting much thought into the different types of race that we could possibly have, I stumbled upon the idea of a Drag Radial race. A BIG MONEY Drag Radial race! Something with a purse comparable to Ducks races. I watched the live feed of the last Radial race at SGMP, and I must admit the car count and racing was awesome. I know that there are not alot of guys that run drag radials in South Carolina. But, hopefully a Big purse structure would lure cars from G.A., N.C.,FL, Maryland and beyond. This race will be held at a track upstate.

The drag radial movement seems to be really catching on across the country, and this will be the first race of it's kind in South Carolina. By no means would we expect the turnout like SGMP, but just want to bring this type of racing to S.C. In your opinion, do you think this idea would work? What or the pros and cons?

the first concern would be track prep. i know yall have been working on getting the track to work good but it has to be consistant. when it cools off to when the sun is hot as hell. with drag radials prep is a big issue in making it down the track. Do you think you could get past that?

I agree with Bad bob, Radials are a hit and miss, Track prep with radials is a big deal...

will there be a size limit on the radials, if so what size are you thinking?

I think its a good idea for this kind of race in SC, but track prep would be key! What track you wanting to use

I really want to wait until there's more discussion between myself and track operator before disclosing the location. More like confirmation that the race is really a go. I will say that it's one of these, Orangeburg, Darlington, Jackson. Just want to gauge feedback at the moment to see if it's even remotely worth the time and money.

No doubt it's about the purse to get the cars, but it's also about the promotion. If you want to guarantee success, you need to get with the main drag radial promoters and have them help you out. John Sears for the 275 radial guys and Duck for the rest, or a racer that they know. You are jumping on the same bandwagon alot of others are jumping on right now, so you are going to have to set yourself apart with the promotion.

SC, NC, GA and FL have a ton of radial racers so you would be drawing your car count from a pretty big pool of cars. I don't think the available cars will be an issue at all- you just have to get them there.

Also- don't try to change or modify the rules. Stick with the Ultimate Street, X275 and Outlaw Radial/LS rules.

If it were me (I've been saying this for 2 years) I would start an X275 series along with either Ultimate Street or Outlaw Radial (or all 3) at one of the SC tracks. There is already a good following to this type of racing all around us, just not in SC. If you start X275, you will get help on the promotion for sure.

No matter what, don't make a bullshit flyer, join Yellowbullet, post a thread and expect people to show up. Too many guys are doing that now and noone is taking them serious. Radial racing has it's clicks- you are either in it, or your not.

I like the idea of a drag radial race. Wes has brought up some great points. Maybe Montgomery R. will chime in as well. I believe he runs in the X275 class.

I think it would be a great idea to have some radial stuff in the SC area. Wes has pretty much pointed everything out and nailed it on the head. I will be honest, at this current moment there are about 7 different radial classes that run on 275's. Funny thing is that just about 5 of those classes are the same thing with a different name. Then you have actual x275 and 275rs that are "different" if you will. My numbers may be off, but, when you look at the e.t's that some of the radial classes are running they are pretty much the same. Rules are slightly different, but e.t. range is the same.

Not to seem like I'm knocking, but I was after Darlington to do radial races for many of years now and I finally gave up on it (maybe the new guys are up for it). I spend most of my time traveling up to NC as there are races at many different tracks on alternating weekends when I'm not headed to one of the "bigger" races if you will.

I have even spoken with Kevin@ Midway and many of the people I run with in NC and everybody is all for it, but frankly Midway is just now getting to the point to where you can make a so soish pass on slicks, you can forget radials. Midway is getting worlds better with track prep for slicks, but I'm not remotely close to giving the nod for radials and having about 30 cars come down just to smoke show or tear stuff up.

Biggest thing with the radial world, is having solid rules/tech, keeping everything organized, having a killer track that guys can get down on, and set solid purses, no backing out or cutting our cash. If you are wanting to provide a couple hundred bucks, start off with like RS275 or something, nice 5.40-5.30@125-130 cars kinda the "budget" side of easy going things. If you are wanting to up a couple grand and have all your stuff squared away, track on lock, scales, tech, the hole 9 try to swing for X275. Or you could even try some radials vs slicks or something. But the biggest thing that scares me about headsup style racing around here is tech, rules, and tracks.
