Default 14 bolt Rear Swap

Hey guys, looking at my options to swap over to a 14 bolt from my 10. Seems like a smart/safe thing to do at this point.

I was told these are my donors for a direct 6 lug swap...

04-06 VHO trucks
05+ 2wd SSS trucks
06-07 GMT800 Vmax trucks 2wd and 4wd
07-09 GMT900 Vmax trucks 2wd and 4wd
09+ 6.2 equipped trucks both NHT and Denalis
GMT900 SUVs equipped with the 6.2 like Denalis and Escalades

Found this on Craigs.

GM 14 bolt, 3.42's and 6 lug
http://columbia.craigslist.org/bar/3768960708.html

I called and believes it a fit for me, but he's not sure what it came out of othen then a light 2500 duty. He says it was match to his 95 silverado so that makes me wonder if it's still match for me.

Says its got the GM POSI as well, I know the 10 bolt one was crap, is 14 bolt a good unit? It's a drum setup, how bad is swap to disc?

Shit load of questions but thanks for the help. He's going to send me some pic's soon.

Thx -Rob

I would say stay away from the TBSS rear because of the odd bolt pattern. Nothing else interchanges besides other gmt360 vehicles (envoy, bravada etc) so drag wheels would have to be custom made.

Yeah I want something that works with my Bogarts. Thanks for the heads up..

Here's the pic's he sent me and god bless, looks like it's off a damn railroad train. Brackets look correct though. Guys at Redline interested in a clean up/ disc conversion job next week lol.

I had a 14 bolt full floater in my k5 and it was a simple disk brake conversion. I bought the brackets and they bolted on. The calipers were off the front of a 75 3/4 ton truck. It turned out nice I never had a problem.

I dont know if that one has c-clips or not. Also are you looking for disc brakes? It is not like any of the 14 bolt free-floating units I have in my work truck fleet or on my 2500HD.

I'd like it come with disc brakes, but also willing adapt it over to disc if need be.

I would be concerned about the stock axles with your power level unless you plan to change them anyways.

Yeah thats an older C-Clip version of the 14 bolt. Weaksauce compared to the full floater (real) 14 bolt. Of course you wont want eight lug or the weight that comes along with it. What you should be looking for (for a bolt in dealio) is the newer AAM axles that come in the newer chevy trucks...Again a big old heavy turd to have to pull around. I'd be looking at a nice nine inch ford axle myself....Especially if were ballin like a Melcher.

Shawn yeah thats a 9.5" setup, not a 10.5. However from what i'm reading the most I need to do move the spring perches 2" and its good to go. Next would be getting the disc setup on there but that seems to be a pretty common swap.

That 9" is going to need pretty much custom everything to work.

He's trying to get something that will hold up to 900 plus HP and do 9's 1/4 mile reliably. Also pull a boat.

according to forums/bracket racers what i posted will hold his power and some. i used to have a mud bog fad. i went through alot of shit breakin and that was with a dana 60 in a half ton alrdy. when i went mini spool/moser axles with yukon yokes my problems left the rear end and moved to driveshaft. and my neighbors ranger 2wd manual launches a 36 contender on trips on a high tide. so yea.. just my experience. but im the least experienced around in all this race/performance talk. im trying to learn daily!!
