Default Badass AOD

What would it cost to swap a 5 speed in a fox mustang to a bad ass AOD?? don't need exact numbers, just roughly.
Also- what could you sell a used 5 speed for?

Well, if that used 5-speed is a T-5, you could sell it for use as a paperweight. LOL

Sorry, Check with Hal (Lxtasy), he has done that very swap. And he is a cheap-ass.

It cost me $2700 when all said in done (including a $800 POS aod at first.)

My built AOD ran me $1600.
Shifter and all linkage etc $800 (along with a POS transmission)
WRONG converter $200
Misc fluids, ARP bolts and transmission cooler (used) $100

All of that was on an 89 lx 5.0

That's close to what we will have in our conversion. I'm still hoping to sell the T-5 for few hundred to offset some cost.

Depending on what you spend on the convertor... should be able to stay under 4k. Thats assuming you go with a good Lentech auto or custom built unit from someone else.

My car had a world class 5spd with a steeda shifter. Sold it with clutch, flywheel, and cable too for $600. The aod, isn't nothing special I have. Just a shift kit and a harden input shaft and upgraded servo. About $1100 in parts and labor. Convertor is from tq.services for $425. Aod in the black car had a lentch manual valve body with trans break ($725) solid one piece input shaft ($350) and lower gear set($400)

If you have a decent AOD core (preferably one out of a 5.0 Mustang for ~6K rpm shift points), I can build you an AOD for typically $1000-$1300 parts and labor depending on what the core needs. This includes a hardened direct shaft and the Transgo shift kit that will give you shift points around 5800-6000 rpm and all you have to do is just leave it in Drive and floor it. This combo will handle 500hp easily with a lockup converter and about 600hp non-lockup with a 1-pc hardened input shaft (+$300 Lentech 1-pc. shaft).

Of course, in addition to the above would be your choice of torque converter. A good converter will run you from about $450 to $700, depending on who you get one through. The most efficient stall converters that I have ever had experience with are Cameron's at Torque Converter Services in Columbia, SC. Don't forget to budget in a transmission cooler to go with that stall converter($50-$100). A good cooler is a must have with high performance and stall converters.

Now if you want to convert up to the AODE 2" overdrive band with the indestructable 2nd gear sprag, that will add $300 more in parts.

Now for those of you looking to breach the 600hp mark, you will need the Lentech 1-pc input shaft($300) and the Lentech strip terminator valve body($660). This combo will hold up to 800-1000 hp.

If you have any more power than this, you really don't have a streetable enough ride to even justify the cost or need of an overdrive transmission. Time for a built glide or a Lenco at that point.

Paid 2500 for new (ebay) lentech strip terminator w/ 4k stall, once all the other parts are added..flexplate, shifter, cooler, cross member id say 3000-3200 to be on the safe side.

lentech would be the route i would have to go- i dont see much point in having a toy with less than 700+ HP.
Thanks for all the info.

We have a glide with a gear vendor and I love that thing. I know they can make a glide fit anything. A gear vendor can handel 1200 HP with no mods and can be moded to handel 2000 HP.
